The problem though is that AI reduces the number of places to work at which will increase the competition between applicants. If some employers start doing this there will be applicants that will pay to get ahead. How big of an issue this becomes depends on how big of a competition AI will place on job seekers.
I don't think AI changes that balance all that dramatically. Any business that won't hire juniors now, wouldn't have hired them before, and simply had the "Must have 20+ years experience in [flavour of the month] framework" in their job ads.
And experience from past jobs hasn't really counted for anything beyond "They werent stupid enough to get fired", so paying for experience doesn't make sense either.
All that said, regardless of who has the better crystal ball, its a shit time to be a compsci grad...
hasnt CS majors had low job prospects for a decade+ already, even back then there were talks on other forums how they cant find jobs.
The dude who made Stardew Valley started it as a project in between job interviews after he graduated with a CS degree in 2011. He ended up just finishing Stardew Valley before he got a job…
