First, I checked that this isn't a British comm.

We call it Doorbell Ditch It. Because, obviously, the game here is to ring the doorbell and run. It's not a common game anymore, because, first, people don't answer their door unless they're expecting someone, and, B) A lot of people have the front door state surveillance cameras installed. But, also, III) there's a small danger some 2A moron will answer the door with a gun in hand.

I think older GenZ were the last to really enjoy it.

About a decade ago, I was stationed in South Carolina with the US military. While briefing us on the local area, they told us that Halloween is usually spent at the local high school football field, in an event called "Trunk or Treat."

Basically, adults would line up their cars on the field and then hand out candy to trick-or-treaters from the trunks of their cars. I had never heard of Trunk or Treat before.

Turns out, some young boy and his father went up to a door a few years prior for trick-or-treating and the guy who lived there was tripping out on meth or something. When the doorbell rang, he thought the cops were there to bust him, so he grabbed a rifle and unloaded a clip through the door, killing the little boy and his dad. Ever since, the town held Trunk or Treat as a safe alternative to going up to strangers' doors.

Traditional trick-or-treating still existed in the town, but it was an at-your-risk event. I lived in a pretty nice new neighborhood, so we had tons of visitors. But every military family I knew sent their kids to the Trunk or Treat.

What happens if you chose trunk?

The kids get bundled into the boot of a car and renditioned by ICE?

Trunk or treat also happens in rural areas where the houses are far apart.
