I’m out of the loop on this and I don’t want to look it up, I’d rather ask here and have one of you fill me in.

Edit: I’m grateful for everyone who replied.

Macklemoore was opening for Ed Sheeran on his tour, and took some time in his set to speak out in favour of not genociding Palestinians, including clarifying statements that he wasn't blaming Jews in general, just specifically the state of Israel.

The owner of many of Sheeran's tour venues phoned him and said he needed to change his opening act or he'd be barred from performing at venues owned by the same company and several other venue-owners who'd agreed to join the threat. Sheeran caved, despite the fact that some of the tour dates were too soon to plausibly book a replacement capable of filling the venues, and Sheeran being a massive ticket-seller in general, so it likely being a bluff.

P!nk retweeted a message from a pro-Israeli organisation accusing Macklemoore of extreme and vile antisemitism, then when called out for it, doubled down with direct accusations of Macklemoore being an antisemite and wanting to harm Jews.

[–] Baphomet_The_Blasphemer@lemmy.world 9 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Well damn. Never thought much of Sheeran, but I thought Pink was better that this.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

Same. She always seemed to be pretty chill

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 91 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

Wait a sec, Pink is pro genocide? ???

Edit:

https://variety.com/2026/music/news/pink-explains-macklemore-social-media-post-palestine-jewish-1236859273/

Tldr pink is a Jew and is making it all about her and how bad it is that Jews feel targetted and scared, instead of about palestinians that are targetted and murdered.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 47 points 1 day ago (6 children)

I'm Jewish. I'm not religious. I've studied a fair amount about Jewish, Abrahamic, and Judeo-Christian history, scripture, and culture. I am by no means an expert, but I've forgotten more about these religions than most people ever bother to learn.

Armed with this knowledge, I'm ready to make an assessment:

  • P!NK is a bad Jew.
  • Any pro-genocide Jew is a bad Jew.
  • Any Jew who calls people antisemitic for criticizing military actions is a bad Jew.
  • Any Jew who compares humans to animals and uses xenophobia to justify marginalization is a bad human.
  • Any Jew who uses comparisons to animals as justification for extermination is a bad person.
  • Any Jew who condemns children instead of reaching out to them is a bad person and is not paying attention.
  • Any Jew who celebrates the extermination of entire families, bystanders, and civilians needs to examine their entire life while literally eating a brick.
[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I like that last point, but you could've just said "any person who celebrates"

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago

That's probably true, but there are no scriptures regulating how to be a person that I can use to substantiate that claim. Whereas I can point directly to where God yelled at the Jewish slaves for singing and dancing after God forced himself to drown all those Egyptian aggressors¹.

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Another one for the list:

Any jew who forgets that they're not the only semitic pepple and cries antisemitism for themselves but not the Palestinians is a bad jew.

[–] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

"Antisemitism" means hatred of Jewish people. It isn't a general term for hatred of Semitic people, just like "homophobia" isn't a fear of sameness, it's hatred toward gay people. Hating Palestinians makes you a horrible person, but it doesn't make you antisemitic (though there's certainly plenty of overlap).

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

No thats what they made it to be. Not the actual meaning of the word in a linguistic sense

[–] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

As I mentioned with homophobia, etymology is not the same as meaning.

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago

No but in this case yes. You're letting them take the meaning away from the word and in turn you're justifying their discrimination of other Semites.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

No one hates being told there's more than one semitic peoples than semites. Gotta be God's most special children.

Also:

they're not the only semitic pepple

I'm not calling you out for this typo, you just reminded me of "pepole" from the old Dot Dot Dot video, so I enjoyed another viewing and thought I'd share. Context if you're not familiar with the source material being reviewed.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

The voices where pretty good but that's it!

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

I like saying "Explain to me... Explain to me!" far more than people missing the context enjoy me saying it to them.

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago

Lol my screen is cracked so I didn't catch the typo and now I have to leave it in.

[–] Uranus_Hz@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I hate that criticism of Israeli foreign or domestic policies has been equated with a criticism of judeusm and Jewish people as a whole.

There are definitely Jewish people in Israel who disagree with their governments actions. Same as every country.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

My family sure isn't in that group and I'm so fucking pissed at them. We lost dozens of family members in the Holocaust, passed down our stories for, like, 2 generations, and then said "fuck it, the real problem was that we didn't get to be the Nazis."

[–] dethedrus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Am also irreligious Jew.

She is a bad person who only has allegiance to her own kind, national or racial/religious.

[–] swab148@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] dethedrus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

Great point. Most likely above all else now.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

True, but also swap 'Jew' for 'person'

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I did as I began to editorialize a bit more, but in just examining "what does Judaism say makes a good Jew," there are enough relatively black or white assessments that a good/bad value can be assigned. My opinions on whether or not someone is a good person is probably less hurtful to Nazionists than "your scriptures around which you've built your identity say that you're doing it wrong, and anecdotally, God hates you."

[–] starik@lemmy.today 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

It’s probably not ok for a non-Jew to say all that, though, right?

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

I dunno, I once heard an old congregant at my mom's synagogue say, "maybe it's time we admit that Hitler had a few good ideas" referencing rumors that Palestine was going to be turned into a concentration camp.

If you're a gentile, though, maybe try a phrase more like, "the Torah is full of tragedies for people who say stupid shit like that."

[–] kungen@feddit.nu 37 points 1 day ago (2 children)

And please don’t talk to me like I’ve never stood up for my beliefs when it was unpopular. In the middle of the Gulf War in 2006 I put out a song called “Dear Mr. President” and sang it every night on tour while my country was in a war I didn’t support,

And now I’m standing up for my own people,

Translation: "my country" = America, "my own people" = genocidal Zionists. Great take. I'm sure all the dead women and children in Palestine would be so proud of you.

For real, how does everyone in the media bother to feign such cognitive dissonance all the time? When someone says they're against the war in Iran, does that mean they want to kill all Americans?

Who falls for this shit? Zionists need to find something better than playing the victim card 24/7.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

At some stage they really do start to think the world revolves around them.

Double fuckup because she has essentially equated Jews with Zionists and crybabies.

[–] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 hours ago

Zionists and crybabies

[–] djmikeale@feddit.dk 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

when it was unpopular

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't pinks exact brand that she was edgy and counterculture? And didn't Eminem get quite a lot of success with Mosh and White America? If so I don't quite see how courageous she was, standing up against Bush

[–] RaoulDuke25@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Courageous were Dixie chicks. They were against 90% of their base talking shit about W.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That was truly an incredible moment in history. One of the first times that I noticed cracks in the facade of "conservative values."

[–] kestrel7_7@lemmy.world 8 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I remember thinking it mostly showed how sexist country fans can be. No one said shit when Johnny Cash was openly against the Vietnam War…

[–] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 hours ago

Public approval for the Vietnam War was at 34% in 1971, when Singing in Viet Nam Talking Blues released.

Public approval for the Iraq War hit a high of of 80% one month after the Dixie Chicks' comments, so I think it's a safe assumption that it was in the high 70s when they spoke out.

Had they waited until it was politically convenient to speak out, they probably wouldn't have had the same level of backlash, but they had more spine than that.

[–] Duhtocqueville@ttrpg.network 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I’m kind of with you in that pink’s positions off but I can’t quite put my finger in why it’s off brand. It definitely feels off brand but I honestly can’t articulate it.

[–] nightofmichelinstars@sopuli.xyz 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

She's been generally progressive and outspoken on other issues. She used to sing an anti war song during w's presidency.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yep exactly this. I was very surprised to see pink fall on the wrong side of this one.

[–] ztpq@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago

She gets to play the victim.

[–] Redvenom@retrolemmy.com 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The owner of many of Sheeran's tour venues

-I think it's important to name Robert Kraft as the root douche

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 9 hours ago

and plus he got a bunch other stadium owners to black list macklemore.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

The relation to James Charles is someone confused him for her, he replied with "free Palestine".

He's still a predator though.

[–] Dudewitbow@lemmy.zip 27 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Ed Sheeran has tour, one of the openers is Macklemore. Macklemore makes pro-palestinian comment.

Robert Kraft, owner of the Patriots NFL team, and its stadium, Gillete, made an ultimatum and coerced the other venues to join him to remove Macklemore from the tour.

Given the choice, Ed Sheeran dropped Macklemore, and at a later time, several of his other openers have dropped from the tour. Pink is one of the artists to chose to stick around.

Sheeran is claiming neutral, but when the two options presented are kick macklemore out to use the stadium, or keep macklemore, you cannot be considered apolical if you choose either. He chose the first, therefore is political, even if he doesnt necessarily agree with it.

[–] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 28 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I appreciate the reply, and have formed an opinion that pretty much aligns with the other sensible people here.

I also hope Robert Kraft steps on a Lego. Made of nails. That gives him tetanus. And contains wasps. And sharks. And explodes.

[–] Duhtocqueville@ttrpg.network 11 points 1 day ago

I remember when he stepped on a lego and it hurt so bad he jumped up and down and hopped on one foot right into an intimate massage parlor and his credit card fell out of his pocket and he paid to exploit sex traffic victims.

Good times. What a nanny set of circumstances.

at a later time, several of his other openers have dropped from the tour

The biggest news of who dropped from the tour is Ed Sheeran's band.

[–] wander1236@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago

Macklemore was opening for Ed Sheeran and made a statement in support of Palestine. Pink reposted some Instagram story demanding he apologize, and Ed Sheeran didn't defend Macklemore when the guy who owns most of the venues on the tour demanded he be dropped.
