As alarm grows across Europe about growing Russian aggression towards NATO countries, Canada’s ambassador-designate to the European Union says Canada is right to be concerned because of its stake in the continent’s defence and security.

“Canada is an ally through NATO and increasingly working with the European Union, and obviously we have a strong stake in this as well,” Jonathan Wilkinson said in an interview with CTV Question Period airing Sunday. “We have soldiers in Latvia and a commitment under NATO to be part of the response if in fact there was a challenge.”

“So, I mean, we’re all concerned, and it’s important for us to act together to deter the Russians,” Wilkinson also told host Vassy Kapelos.

NATO’s Article 5 outlines the principle of collective defence and asserts that an attack on one member is considered an attack on all members.

Worry about Russia’s actions have been growing amongst Canada’s allies in Europe.

“I think we should all be concerned,” Wilkinson said, when asked by Kapelos about his level of worry at the prospect of potentially imminent Russian action. “I mean, some of the recent activities in Leipzig and elsewhere have shown the Russians are willing to actually do things that previously we would not have thought they would have done.”

“Europeans take this very, very seriously, and they should,” Wilkinson added. “It’s on their doorstep.”

I don't want to sound like an alarmist, but yes. I think things are bad. Pete Hegseth (former Fox News Anchor) is now Secretary of Defence. Oh, wait, now it's Secretary of War. A Fox News Anchor! I think the leader of the USA is a lunatic. Why the Republican party has let this debacle continue is beyond my comprehension. Maybe someone smarter than me can explain why the USA is sinking, and politicians are doing nothing to stop it...

Easy. The rich people groom politicians to play the game. The game is to give the rich what they want. These days it seems the rich want to suck up all the money, build bunkers, and generally fund fascism that works in their favor. These rich people have no borders. They don’t care about countries or people. The largest offenders live in China, Russia, and the USA. Each one of them, and all blood relatives, should be cremated and launched into space.

Not to doxx myself too much…. My bubble is US, Canada and France…. I tend to read and find things in those areas so I do look at global news/politics there. Then off and on everywhere else because with here in New York with this massive demographic, it’s sometimes hard not too get into global politics.

There’s a time frame from 2025 till now where there were so many office/political terms ending around the same time and handful of countries going backwards like the US…… I think people are going to see a lot of confusion and regret like Brexit. But, I see a hard evolution milestone humans are going to learn and grow from. I don’t think world peace will happen in our life time but I do believe a worldwide protest could happen because at this point, everyone is tired of this bullshit. Just sucks we haven’t met that breaking point yet.

Russia has been:

Trying to blow up airplanes in Leipzig.
Diverting Ukrainian drones into neighbouring countries, flying some of their own in also.
Hiring idiots through Telegram to do tasks for Russian intelligence, ranging from taking pictures of sensitive locations all the way to parcel bombings (sometimes the idiots get blown up too, massive win for Russia because then they don't have to pay).
Multiple occasions having battleships point guns at boats, fighter jets buzzing, intruding on airspace in the Baltic countries, basically whatever provocations they can get away with "I'm not touching your nose!" style.

Plus since 2022 basically Russian propaganda has been telling Russians that they are in a war with NATO / the West.

It's a good media outlet with high credibility in my opinion, but here it's more important what the ambassador says. It's not different from European officials' statements (and those of my friends and colleagues in Europe and North America if I may say so).

Tends to lean right / pro-corporate since it's a corporate news outlet - Bell Media (Bell Canada). It tends to be factual. Probably better than US corporate media.

Compared to the US, we're all degenerate communists that must be taken over because we're wasting our resources on (somewhat) universal healthcare. :D

The Breach, The Walrus, The Tyee, there's others. Instead of looking for someone's bias rating or opinion, it's easier to look at the ownership. Is it a small independent outlet, or is it a corporate one. These are all independent AFAIK and there are others like them. The things they write about and the perspectives they have are tend to be reliably different based on that distinction. An example of the class (up-down) spectrum being more informative than the left-right spectrum.
