Because sometimes someone delivers a good service that you appreciate and want to support so that they can keep offering that service and keep improving upon it.
I feel like donating money to devs is different than paying for an app so you don't see ads.
Plenty of great FOSS apps out there that would never show an ad.
No indeed, paying for an app so you don't see ads is like paying for protection so the maffia doesn't burn your house down.
