If it has a soul then wouldn't that mean they have to grant it rights such as no forced labor, PTO, &c...

Maybe soul has more meaning that "supernatural ghost" and more like, "actual drive and reason and purpose."
If everyone stopped touching AI, it would stop doing anything. It is not even alive.
Now, don't denigrate the dewey decimal system. It's a beloved institution.
If someone is torturing them, they are just programs. If they want money from religious people, it has a soul.
I think these specific people believe in the machine spirit at all times, at least a lot of them are rationalist cultists
