“Steve Miller certainly seemed to make that point to everyone that he wanted it to be cruel. This was what Miller had stated to the DHS at that time, to the DHS director and deputy director. What surprised me was just how adamant the people were that it was going to happen. Damn the consequences. I would say in 25 years of working with the U.S. government, I've never been in that position before."

Just about every single person they quoted in that (terrifying) article asked to stay anonymous for fear of retaliation by the government.

This is not normal. This is some seriously dystopian bullshit.

I have a sticker on my water bottle, says "nazi lives don't matter." My grandmother asked me if I feel nervous walking around with that, and it just made me think "Why should I feel nervous about insulting nazis in America!?" It's truly a sign of how terrible everything has gotten. The nazi far-right problem has become so widespread, it's tendrils stuck so deep into our government, that it makes me question if it is actually safe to be anti-nazi?

The article talks about an ICE detention center that the community railed against, and got successfully cancelled via a court order. But the rule of law evidently doesn't mean anything anymore, because they are just using it anyway and lying about it. The government is no longer beholden to the checks and balances offered by the judiciary, and that's fucking terrifying.

IMO the rule of law in this country was finally put down for good the moment the Supreme Court codified "If the President does it, it's not illegal."

There may be some disagreement there as to where exactly the rule of law died, but the fact is we are a lawless country now. The only matters of substance are whatever anyone can secure and keep by subterfuge, coercion, and/or brute force. There is no social contract or consent of the governed intact. Anyone looking to prepare for the coming times should keep that in mind.

As an answer, yes, it is dangerous to be an anti-nazi now.

I don't think it matters if it's safe in the short term to walk around with stickers like that. It's important though, even if safety is your primary goal.

Nazi ideology is unpopular. It thrives only by making those opposed to it think and act as if it is widely accepted. If perceived acceptance allows Nazis to gain more power then you will be vastly more unsafe than you are now.

Therefore, if safety is your primary goal then stopping Nazis is one of the most important things you can work towards. It is more important for others to see your resistance than it is to be safe in the short term.
