Does that mean the only people to watch would be women in fake beards? Maybe we can get Hegseth to say Jehovah...

Kidding aside I'm not morally against execution for heinous crimes but our system is too inconsistent to be effective. In one state a heinous murder does not get the death penalty, in another a run of the mill capitol murder does. Death sentences are disproportionately given to people of color. Death row is extremely expensive vs a life in prison sentence. Executions fail as a strong deterrent as when the execution is finally performed, it decades after the crime, long after it has left the public's consciousness. Christa Pike's crime was in 1995, three decades ago, for example. Following that story it was like: who? What crime did she commit?

I don't know if there has been a strong correlation that shows it's a deterrent at all.

Even in the United States, capital punishment has been on the wane, meanwhile, violent crime has been trending down overall for decades, as well.

Never in history has it been a deterrent. No matter how extreme the measure is taken. In North Korea they will execute your entire family and it doesn’t work.

It will embolden terrorism, they want to die for their cause. Which is probably really the play.

these are the same people who beat their kids. when the kids eventually cut contact the parents are shocked and can’t understand how this happened and think maybe if they beat them more it would have stopped this

No I think the play was that they actually thought it was a good idea and would actually be a deterrent a good show of their power. These people are hateful and selfish idiots, it all tracks.

Fascism needs people to be desperate and scared. Thats my thought process.

Its why making fun of it, works wonders.
