My mother has this scar. I just asked as a kid and was told what it was (although I've forgotten which exact vaccine now) and asked why I didn't and she says because all the vaccines now don't leave scars. Which not accurate overall was accurate for me.

She also got a vaccine on a sugar cube she laughed when I said that sounded easier to give to children over needles.

Here's an article from 1999 when the polio sugar cube vaccine was discontinued in the US. It extremely rarely causes you to get polio, it caused 10 cases a year in the US over the 20years it was in use:

"Both vaccines protect the individual very well. The difference is that the oral polio vaccine is easier to administer and is better to use in an epidemic setting, which is what we had in the 1950s and 1960s," CDC spokeswoman Barbara Reynolds said.

"Now, with no epidemic polio in this country, it's perfectly legitimate to move to an inactivated polio vaccine," she said.

For context Polio is still extremely rare in the US for now (1 case in 2022). While i think vaccine hesitancy would be way lower with an oral vaccine, I think the cons really outweigh the benefits in this case... for now

The one with the cut is smallpox, the one on sugarcubes is polio. Both were terrible scourges before vaccines were invented.

And turns out, getting ready for their second act because of people too dumb to understand the devil magic of vaccines

Only polio. Smallpox can't come back without a lab leak. Our elimination of it may be more impressive than our walking on the moon.

I blame you RFKJrsBrainworm, why did you have to eat the part that processed logic?
