Could really see Newsom becoming president of the future New California Republic. Not saying I like that future. But I am starting to see it how it could come to pass
The south was burned to the ground when they tried to secede. Enough of the country hates California that it probably would happen again if they tried. And the 35% of Republicans in the state would probably help.
Perhaps. California has loads of money and access to lots of technological infrastructure. They could potentially seize tech companies' operations and deprive the rest of the country of things like their Gmail, YT access, operating systems, etc. GDP is very translatable to power imo.
It wouldn't be the New California Republic, the current state government is the California Republic. The Republic was more or less established after annexation.
You're right, I'm sure nothing would need to be changed.
Wait at first everyone mostly libs hated Newsom now he is making fun of Trump and now y’all taking him serious ? Dems party is dead with no leader for the next decade!
Yeah it pains me too, but it seems that being a trollish funnyman who makes good screenshots worth reposting is the essence of electability in 2025
Than*
Nah, libs adore him and always have. That's how he gets elected.
Those of us on the actual LEFT who're paying attention to his policies and other actions that aren't pure PR gimmicks and "sounds good on the surface" never could stand him, though, and would be enormous hypocrites to applaud his fighting gerrymandering with gerrymandering.
I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted (there are deleted child comments so maybe that's where the issue lies), you're pretty spot on. When I was less politically educated (I don't pretend to be the most informed now) and considered myself a liberal I was pretty cool with Newsom. Never looked into much of his policies but the headlines usually phrased things in a way that aligned with my ideals at the time so I was ok with him. Now that I'm a good deal older and pay a bit more attention to things I think he's a complete tool, but in a freak scenario where Trump gets elected for an illegal 3rd term and goes full dictator and Newsom successfully secedes California from the US, California is the obvious option.
