Society already doesn't function even if you allow abortion and ban guns. Not when the police still has free reign to kill people at their whim, a justice system that encourages putting people in prison so they can be used as slaves, and corporations doing their best to torture the workers.
Also, remember what the bearded grandpa said back in the mid to late 1800s. Banning guns in the US now would be a disaster because the cops are ALL nazis or in cahoots with nazis and would only disarm the people they seek to exterminate, not the only group who's known to kill and massacre people endlessly with guns.
I don't know of any responsible Democrat politicians who is advocating for the prohibition of all guns. That is Conservative Propaganda Machine dogma, with no basis in reality. During the Obama administration, SCOTUS reached one of their only decisions regarding the 2nd Amendment, not full prohibition, just in certain large cities, and dismissed it. The Dems weren't happy about it, but they accepted it, and there hasn't been any real gun legislation since.
Some have proposed some common sense restrictions on certain types of weapons, age of ownership, etc., but MAGA will not allow ANY new restrictions on guns, even though we already have LOTS of restrictions already.
Nobody is trying to take anybody's guns away, least of all Democrats, who actually respect the Constitution and SCOTUS. When blanket gun restrictions come, it is a guarantee that it will come from MAGA. Trump has already said that he wants to take guns a way first, and deal with the legalities later.
The moment MAGA starts to think that guns will be turned on them, guns will be made illegal.
In Florida, following the 2018 Parkland School Massacre, Republican governor Rick Scott, and the Republican Florida Legislature, passed a number of gun restrictions, including raising the hand gun ownership age to 21, and instituting Red Flag Laws.
The result was immediate. There were no more school shootings in Florida, and gun violence among young men dropped enormously. When the ownership age is 18, guns find their way into the hands of younger, stupider teens. But if a 16 year old tries to get a 21 year old to buy them a gun, a 21 yo is much more likely to tell them to Fuck Off.
But DiSantis isn't a Republican, he's an astonishingly stupid MAGA ape, and he lowered the ownership age back to 18, for no other reason than he's a fucking child, and thinks it's funny to see the Libtards get upset. So now gun violence between young people is an epidemic in Florida, including a return to school shootings. There had been no school shootings in Florida between Scott's age increase, and DiSantis' decrease. Now, nearly every day there is a new story of kids killing each other.
One recent story from my area was the death of a beautiful 15 year old girl, who was just sitting in the back seat of a friend's car at a Wawa gas station. A bunch of goons mistook the car for one owned by a guy they had beef with, and started firing into the car, killing her. That one's been getting a lot of play because the girl couldn't have been more innocent, but similar stories are playing out across Florida every day.
BTW, Rick Scott, now Senator, doesn't like to talk about this, lest MAGA voters find out that he once pushed and passed gun restriction legislation. When asked, he'll always give the same canned answer: "I just want to make sure that any legislation respects the 2nd Amendment." It's literally the only positive thing he's done in his entire corrupt political career, and he runs from it.
And it's worse than all that, because DiSantis also got rid of the need for a simple four-hour class in order to get a concealed carry permit. Now a teen can walk into a gun store, buy a gun, stick in his waistband, and head directly to the person he wants to kill.
I'm not naive enough to think that none of this was ever happening before, but the incidence of indiscriminate killing among teens has skyrocketed since DiSantis decided to teach the Libz a lesson. Clearly, the age of handgun ownership had a strong influence on the amount of teen gun violence, and THAT'S the kind of common sense gun restrictions that we should be supporting. Handguns don't need to be banned, we just need simple, reasonable restrictions on who can own them, and requiring proper training. We restrict automobile use, the types of vehicles allowed, and the age people can use them. You must be trained, and pass a written test, an eye test, and a driving test. Why? because cars are dangerous, and an irresponsible driver can kill a lot of people. Shouldn't guns be viewed in the same way?
I have a whole thing on why military-style guns should be prohibited, as they once were under Bill Clinton, but that's another bunch of paragraphs for another time.

Yes, yes he did. Presumably because he is trying to push a specific narrative to you “crackers” and you just simply aren’t getting it by being reasonable.
Things is I actually bought his story before he started going around calling people crackers. Nothing screams "I'm a white man larping as a black man." more than calling someone a cracker.

And yet, nearly every mass shooting is done with the same few weapons, because those are the ones that are designed to appeal to weaklings who want to finally prove how powerful they are. That's why they all dress alike, and use the same weapons.
There is a psychological appeal to those weapons, which is why they choose those specific weapons, instead of a standard Ruger, which does basically the same thing, but without appealing to the broken mentality of a psychopath. I wouldn't advocate for banning the Ruger, but I would advocate for banning the ones that are clearly intended to appeal to a certain psychological profile.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised at all to find out that the manufacturers of those guns have done studies on those psychological profiles, and tailored these weapons to specifically appeal to them. It would be no different than what tobacco companies did by using internal studies to make their products form addictions faster, stronger, and more difficult to quit, then denied they were unhealthy for decades.
And the oil companies did the same thing with studies into climate change decades before Al Gore brought it to the world's attention in the next century.
Evil companies do evil things, and few are as systemically evil as an arms manufacturer.
You think I'm all for banning all sorts of guns and are getting all crazy about it. I like guns. I'm not a hunter, but I've been a target shooter since I learned to shoot in the Boy Scouts, and I'm really good at it. I recently had a cataract in my right eye, and couldn't shoot for a while, but I just got it taken care of, and I can see better than I could before! I can't wait to get back to the range.
I live in Florida, and I'm happy to have some of the loosest gun laws in the nation, but I am very distressed at the incredible increase in juvenile shootings that are happening all over the state. 21 is a reasonable age for a gun owner, and I don't see an issue with taking a four hour class, and proving you know something about your gun (where's the safety?), and the laws that regulate it (like Stand Your Ground and Castle Doctrine), before being allowed to carry it around in PUBLIC. Geez, do you really want the average Florida Man walking around strapped? That guy has a bad reputation for a reason. Think George Zimmerman.
And seriously restrict the availability of certain guns that are known to inspire mentally ill people. There are plenty of other guns out there, this isn't any big sacrifice. They were already banned in the 90s, under Clinton, and mass shootings were extremely rare. The era of mass shootings only started when the ban expired in 2004, with an incredible rise in the decade following.
Giving up those specific guns is a small price to pay to make our schools, malls, concerts, and lives significantly safer. You can keep ALL your other guns, and make that small sacrifice for your fellow citizens like a patriotic American.
You're literally pulling out QAnon level of conspiracy theories to justify banning a firearm based on design. Mass shooters use the AR-15 because it's the most common rifle in the nation. Also, mentally ill people are MORE likely to suffer gun violence than commit it. No one fucking cares about what your white guilt says. Move out of the way and let POC lead gun control.

Nah, I explained myself, and I stand by it. Plenty of people still say that the tobacco companies and oil companies never did anything wrong. People were accused of spreading conspiracy theories until it ALL came out in court, and it was worse than anyone thought. That's not conspiracy theory, that's just truth, and I don't have any more faith in the gun industry.
I get it, you're just an apologist for your favorite hobby. I like guns, too, like I said, but I also don't like seeing innocent people unnecessarily hurt by them. I'm human like that. Apparently you aren't. Good luck with that.
Only those who have the correct skin color, you mean. Banning AR-15s would save like 75 white people per year at best, restricting handguns on the other hand would save thousands, but since they're not blue eyed blondes they don't matter to you.

Caring about ARs is a "minimum performative effort" initiative. They're generally an expensive, niche firearm, so banning them actually impacts few people, but they're scary-looking, "military" weapons. AR bans are most likely to get public support, regardless of any actual impact on gun deaths. It's the firearm version of a transgender bathroom ban.
Low end AR-15s are not any more expensive than a mid-quality deer rifle. Here's a thought though. If only women had AR-15s there would be far, far less killings. If the Amish were the only ones who owned AR-15s there would be virtually no killings.
Many buy AR-15 rifles because they want to kill - as did Kyle Rittenhouse murders. They fall back to shotguns, handguns or whatever they can get their hands on, including bombs, flammables and vehicles.
