A federal court has upheld the new congressional map approved by California voters last month, giving Democrats a chance to counter the nationwide redistricting effort led by President Trump and his Republican allies.

The court challenge to the redistricting plan had been brought by the California Republican Party and the U.S. Department of Justice. The court found that the new district map did not violate laws against racial gerrymandering.

The Republicans argued that the new map was motivated by a desire to increase the voting power of Latinos. The court, in a two-to-one ruling, rejected that claim, noting that voters approved the measure, called "Proposition 50" and there was no evidence they acted on racial grounds.

At this point. I feel like we'll annex Canada before the midterms and he'll just be like "ah, can't have elections. Wouldn't be fair for the new states. We gotta delay until they are established. For fairness and such".

The useless Democrats at that point are just full fascist supporters. It sounds ridiculous but this is one of many reasons for a non election I could see occuring. Among others.

"The Canadians are putting up a lot of resistance after we butchered every single one of them in Vancouver. Oh, and I would like to remind you all that I enjoyed pulling my Canadian guest apart in the Oval Office. I'm sure you all did too, since I broadcasted it live. Inappropriate content? Not on my watch. Oh, and since the Canadians are blowing up our ICE agents, I'm going to have to cancel the elections. The Canadians will try to mess with the results, and we can't have that, you know? We'll resume elections when all the Canadians have been exterminated like the dogs they are."

At least whoever survives the war will be able to drag Trump and his cabinet out of their bunkers for Nuremburg 2: orange boogaloo.

Just "annex Canada?" And try to cancel elections on that basis? That makes no sense. Even if he is serious about Canada, he's got several priorities ahead of that right now, like Venezuela, Greenland, Iran, and America itself. Canada is somewhere down the line, after he's kicked ass in a few other cases, and he can use that to intimidate Canada and Mexico into becoming vassal states.

It's obvious that the current plan is to increase unrest in the streets, amp up the violence, impose Martial Law, and THEN cancel the election.

Oh, yeah, I've been writing speculative fiction every day. I have a history degree, and all my life I've been making predictions of where America would go in the future.

Back when I first started listening to Rush Limbaugh in the late 80s, and heard him gathering new conservatives to his side, I thought about the path this country could take if the growing Conservative Propaganda Machine continued unchallenged for the next few decades.

My prediction is pretty close to where we are (although I never would have predicted a putz like Trump), but I honestly thought we'd avoid this. Now I think it's going to get a LOT worse before it gets better.

I also predict that IF Dems regain power, they absolutely have to deal decisively with MAGA, or we will be right back to where we are now, except worse.

Imagine if we let Hitler off the hook in WW2, and he went on to regain power in a few years? We already allowed that to happen, and we cannot let it happen a second time. Our country, the world, and history deserve better.

Yeah. If we actually have elections again. We need the equivalent of how the USSR treated Nazis. We literally need major reeducation and reintegration measures taken on 20-25% of the country. Or something similar to what happened after the Civil War with reconstruction (but actually following through on it).

Would also need to be simultaneously done with major industrial and infrastructure development done directly by the government. Offering actual well paid jobs to the masses. Normalizing relations with China and stop treating our largest

And, well, I think the Dems will absolutely fail at doing that. I just don't see the path we are on ending without either a Red October or a WW2.

You can't just have weak neoliberalism try and fail again. It will just result in the fish brain memory of the population electing someone even worse than Trump. Like Tucker Carlson.

Imagine if we had let Hitler off the hook, and he regained power 5 years later?

Well, we did that. This country, the world, and history needs us to not fuck it up a second time.
