Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Always knew this sanctimonious douchebag was a creep. Now it looks like he's a criminal one.

Is anyone surprised?

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 137 points 3 weeks ago

I mean we already knew that, too. But victimizing a homeless girl is a whole new level of creep.

[–] mr_account@lemmy.world 74 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There have been reports of this asshole being a pedo for years. But ever since covid, I honestly couldn't tell you if it was during the early Biden administration or a decade ago

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 43 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I just assumed that he'd always been rapng children.

[–] Nastybutler@lemmy.world 32 points 3 weeks ago

He used to rape children. He still does, but he used to too

[–] DNS@discuss.online 44 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Unfortunately this will only make him more likeable by Republican voters, seeing as they support pedophiles.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Let's be fair. Some of his voters are already convicted sex offenders and are no longer eligible to vote.

I lived in Okaloosa county for five years. It's an area ripe for exploitation and Gaetz has been doing so most of his life thanks to his daddy.

[–] Masamune@lemmy.world 15 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Don't worry, I'm sure someone will SLAM him for it and then we will see some real consequences.

Yet another beautiful story about how a young person has to sell their youth in order to afford medical care in America.

Deeply /s

Wait till you hear what the biggest attraction of the US Military is...

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 31 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

It's to get the hell out of middle of nowhere dead end towns. At least that was the draw when I was in, as well as my cousins, and father.

[–] NewDayRocks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

If your father did it and you ended up joining for that reason... then maybe it wasn't really effective?

I remember a time in 2010 or 2011 (I dont remember when exactly) that they said that sex was the last remaining thing that can ruin a politician's career.

That hasn't been the case since Trump even started running for office in 2015. The level of debauchery is just disgusting. Even if Pete Hegseth was discovered to have made sex videos and they were leaked on porn hub, and then he responded by posting more sex videos he made more recently... this would probably do nothing to harm his career.

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 36 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

People generalize this topic too much.

If Pete Hegseth posted his sex tape it’d be wildly unprofessional, but ultimately who cares (and why should they?)

If Pete hegseth posted the sex tape of an unwilling participant that he surprise donkeypunched while she was underage in exchange for money to get her tonsils out, that’s a bit of a different thing.

America has taught too many people to cower at “what the LORD might think” and accept the word of their leaders as though it was handed down as such.

So when they hear “SEX” they shut down and they go “only the DEVIL would make such accusations at the brave men who deliver our LORDS message to us!”

It’s literally brainwashing.

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 26 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Infidelity does demonstrate a lack of morals that imo should matter to the electorate. If someone is single or in an open relationship, sure. Otherwise, if someone is willing to betray their spouse, how can we expect them to respect us, a bunch of strangers?

[–] raspberriesareyummy@lemmy.world 29 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

This is one of the reasons, unironically.

I have nothing against sex work, but this was not sex work; this was a goddan tragedy created by a bunch of monsters who created the current situation in which this can happen in the first place.

Just one more reason why they want to keep you poor. So they can do shit like that. And worse.

He would have been your Attorney General!!! Yes!!! Trump's "Finest, best people".

[–] TheMinister@sh.itjust.works 41 points 3 weeks ago

The fact that these cases always seem to end with “DOJ declined to bring charges” or some similar fate is disgusting

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 38 points 3 weeks ago

But, they supposedly couldn't find a reason to actually prosecute this fucker? Give me a break.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 38 points 3 weeks ago

We need to move past these things and finally concentrate on the really important issues, like transgender girls playing volleyball!

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 37 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That poor girl, so desperate that she had sex with someone who looks like a cephalopod.

[–] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 49 points 3 weeks ago

~~had sex with~~ was raped by

Fixed that for you.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 30 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

They ain't raping their fellow rich kin. This shit is classist, they don't view the poor as people to be respected.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 17 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

The fact that representatives knew this happened, and accepted basically "if you step down from taking your next roll, we'll ignore it". Shows how absolutely every representative that wasn't screaming about it should be in prison right now.... Which means near all reps in Florida, and many in U.S. Congress.

Also, token: Desantis absolutely allowed this to be covered up for political reasons/gain
