You can be an introvert and have no trouble at all picking up the phone, though.

[–] sean_lemmy@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah, this is actually more a social anxiety thing. Introverts are more likely to have untreated social anxiety because it self reinforces with their preference for isolation.

And the number of extroverts who suffer believing they’re an introvert because of their social anxiety …. So so so high

I’ve once picked up phone from a ground

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

For sure. Making/taking calls though? Strictly forbidden.

[–] rustydrd@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

Totally. I'm an introvert, and when my phone rings, I pick it up with no problem. I also immediately put it down again with no problem. Works really well, except when people decide to let it ring for what feels like eternity.

Now the only thing left to do is get through the shame spiral because I said bye too many times

[–] Demdaru@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

If I said bye too many times it means the person on the other side clinged and didn't let me end the call xD

Oh, while on this, old people and their "Bye. < few seconds of silence > Oh and also..."

No. Stop. I've become fastest disconnecter in the west to avoid that shit >:(

Plot twist: other person thinks the same of you…

Me on a call with my boss: "No, you hang up!"

[–] bampop@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

OK, bye. Love you! ~shit~

[–] JesusTheCarpenter@feddit.uk 9 points 1 month ago

ADHD folks too. Especially since they have been procrastinating on this for months and it took 2 mins to get it resolved.

"That could have been an email"

[–] KeenFlame@feddit.nu 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Proceed to indulge excessively in procrastination "because i'm worth it"

[–] filcuk@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago

Done the call you've been postponing for months?? Take the rest of the day off to unwind.

[–] PieMePlenty@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

This isn't an introvert thing though. I'm the champion of introversion and can make it through a phone call no problem. Don't ask me to call someone I don't know though. But my point is, this is some form of anxiety. It may be more prevalent in introverts, that's probably why we can bond over it. But its not an introvert thing to be scared of phone calls, its something else.

"uhuh. Yep. Okay. Alright. Yes. Okay thanks. Alright. Okay thanks, bye. You too, thanks bye."

How did you snap a picture of my significant other? o_O

The weekly phone call with my parents

[–] Mim@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

No, I'm introvert, not sociophobic.

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

Thanks for doing the hard stuff for yourself. Youre worth the effort and pain. Sorry so much of life requires constant maintenance.
