Tinfoil hat time: Based on the close up of the shooting, it looks like he got shot right in the corrotid artery, which has a very high mortality rating. This wasn't a lucky shot, this was well aimed. If you look at the tape, it doesn't look like someone in the crowd had a gun, no one in the crowd was reacting before the shot occurred, and no one saw a gun pulled. In the crowd full of people, how to you avoid everyone else and make a kill shot like that? I legit believe this was a shot taken from far away and the person that took the shot had the ability to make a sniper shot like that, (some form of police/military training.) Then, before he's been officially pronounced dead, Trump posts "The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!" Trump wrote on his social media platform. If he hadn't officially been declared dead, why was Trump saying that Charlie Kirk was dead before it was official. Next Trump is blaming the left with no proof. I'm calling it, Trump had Kirk assassinated as a false flag operation, and this will be trump's reischtag fire. Buckle up. Edit: NYT is saying the shot came from a roof via a high power bolt action rifle, because the gun was found in the woods near the campus. Authorities also claim to have video footage of the suspect going to the roof of a campus building.

The shooting spot was about 250 yards away. That's WWII sniping range, but not particularly far for modern precision rifles. According to Ryan Cleckner (US Army Ranger sniper), precision marksman training in the Army makes you use iron sights out to 600 yards. A good setup these days can hit a dinner plate (read: a human head) at 1000 yards, and that's not even pushing it.

They didn't have to hit him the neck. They just needed to hit the general head area. They got lucky hitting the artery dead on, but any head hit has a very high probability of death.

There are millions of bench rest shooters with a bolt action rifle who could make that shot.

[–] morphballganon@mtgzone.com 1 points 9 minutes ago

Shooter was probably aiming for head and the bullet lost a few inches of altitude in the air

[–] couldhavebeenyou@lemmy.zip 1 points 20 minutes ago

Whoever did it, at least we know (s)he had to be part of a well regulated militia

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 19 minutes ago

false flag operation

Claims like this give both too much credit for action and too little to strategy.

  • there’s no reason to believe this specific action was a false flag operation when in the current environment it’s simple to believe a radicalized individual
  • isn’t that one of the benefits of the continuous hatred, outrage, divisiveness, chaos? There’s always going to be stuff like this happening, so you always have an event to capitalize on without the risk of doing it yourself
[–] teletext@reddthat.com 22 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

No, that was random gang violence. Charly tried to sell crack on the wrong turf.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 58 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Next up: FBI confirms a firearm was used in the shooting.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 17 points 1 hour ago

Ongoing: FBI suspect that political landscape might be toxic

[–] littletranspunk@lemmus.org 2 points 29 minutes ago

I mean duh, that's how you aim

[–] db2@lemmy.world 115 points 3 hours ago (13 children)

Of course he was targeted. The shooter is likely dead by now. They probably called it Operation Watch Charlie or something.

He was killed as a distraction.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 19 points 2 hours ago

He was killed as a distraction.

Susie Wiles: "Sir, they leaked the live copy of your letter to Jeffery Epstein. It's having absolutely no effect on your public approval and Congress seems incapable of doing anything to stall your accrual of executive level powers. What should we do?"

Trump: "I'm a great president, Susie. Some say I'm the greatest president who ever lived. That's why I make the big decisions. And I've been thinking about this for a long time. We've got to save the nation. We need to get stronger. Some people are saying we're not strong, but they're wrong, Susie. This is the best this country has ever been and it's only going to get better. Are you ready to make this country better, Susie? I don't think you're ready... you're nodding. Does that mean you're ready?"

Susie Wiles: "Yes, Mr. President. Anything for you, Mr. President."

Trump: "Go talk to Pete Hegseth. He'll tell you what to do."

Pete Hegseth, drunkenly: "Susthy, ith so good to thee you again. But I lothe to wath you leaf."

Susie Wiles: "The President said you would know what to do."

Pete: "Yeah, uh... kill the big head guy. You know the one. With the tiny face."

Susie: "Charlie Kirk"

Pete: loud burping noise

Susie: "Right away, Mr. War Fighter Commander Pete."

sounds of gunfire

Susie Wiles: "Mr. President! In a strange turn of fate, it appears someone else shot Charlie Kirk before we could get to him."

Trump: "All according to plan, Susie. I'm the smartest man who ever lived. You can thank me with a kiss. Get over here, sweetie."

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 22 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Possible... but he had a lot of enemies, and there's more and more people with literally nothing left to lose in the USA every single day, so it was probably inevitable on a long enough timescale.

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 9 points 40 minutes ago

Who would have thought that making millions of people's lives actively worse in an already not great time in the most widely-armed country in the world could have POSSIBLY led to current events???

[–] takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Will this be excuse to send military to Utah or is he planning something else?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 39 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

The bullet was fired from Chicago.

[–] Duranie@literature.cafe 14 points 1 hour ago

Hey, I live in the Chicago burbs and can tell you that I was at Lou's picking up my pizza at the same time the shooter was ordering his at the counter, so it couldn't have been him.

Geniuses ... guy who called for violence against people, wanted to deny people's rights, making fun of their misery, downplaying deaths of other people, publicly mocking others in distress and making millions of dollars off it all ... and doing it all on a daily basis on national platforms with a following of millions .... FBI suddenly thinks that people might want to kill this person.

[–] Balaquina@lemmy.ca 70 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

TIL that I could be in the FBI. Great detective work guys.

When you realize how low the bar is, you should never have imposter syndrome again. At this point the remaining federal government is only composed of Trump loyalists.

The claims of meritocracy replacing DEI are beyond ridiculous. How many campus shooters have ever just walked away like this? This was a high profile assassination. The fact that they still have not found the guy that did this, should let you know they either let this happen or they're now just completely incompetent. I'm leaning towards the former, but the latter is definitely a possibility.

Anybody can just be handed power and control under this administration, no matter how unqualified. That is how the right has been operating for the last 25+ years. Literally that is why people keep joining this grift. If you're willing to pledge loyalty, take advantage of people, and help destroy your own country, you can make bank.

The people that fund the right refuse to let a penny of their money go towards taxes to pay for public services, but they will literally throw absurd amounts of money at anything that promotes their agenda. They would pay somebody to publicly set their own money on fire, if it meant that person could convince a handful of people to keep voting Republican.

The really sad thing is, there is some truth to the left (or at least the Democratic party) becoming so comfortable being cemented in established norms and institutions, that they have managed to become exclusionary and made a big chunk of the U.S. feel alienated.

Like a lot of the institutions on the left have become what the Republican party was when the new right was first forming. Everybody "new" actually has connections to somebody already established in the party. They're usually somebody's kid, relative, or family friend, or they attended the same Ivy League and were recruited by somebody in the establishment.

[–] RFKJrsBrainworm@sh.itjust.works 1 points 14 minutes ago

I read a really interesting article years ago that spoke about that happening on Communist China back in Mao's time. Essentially all the folks who were competent retired/replaced by folks with connections to the party not the role. Thus corruption infiltrated.

I can't find the article and I don't remember the professor's name who wrote it but I remember thinking it was odd that a Chinese professor was writing about the government and letting it be published. I think he may have gotten in trouble after the fact or something else.

Did they check every farm house, hen house, dog house and out house in the area?

[–] DScratch@sh.itjust.works 19 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 58 minutes ago) (5 children)

Luigi was caught in like 24 hours (edit: as pointed out, more like 5 days) with a manifesto, confession, gun, bodycam footage, and a gps tracker that proves he done it.

This guy is a ghost.

BUT THEYVE SECURED THE WOODS GUISE!

[–] slate@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 hour ago

Luigi was missing for a few days, after executing a masterful getaway in the middle of the day in the largest city in the country. Then just randomly shows up at a McDonalds with everything needed to convict him packaged together in a bag. Definitely not unusual at all. Nothing to see here folks! The system works and the police are master investigators. It's impossible to get away with a crime like this!

[–] The_v@lemmy.world 1 points 11 minutes ago

Hmmmm... think about how hard tracking a sniper would be on a university campus via surveillance cameras if they dressed to fit in. A black computer backpack from big box store combined with a university branded outfit and hat. Then walk into highly congested areas like a student union building and make a quick change into a different university branded outfit.

They could then walk to public transit with the crowd of people as the officials shut down the school.

Yes well trained people with the right software could eventually figure it out but it would take time.

The longer it takes the more chance the shooter gets away.

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Luigi Mangione was not apprehended for five days. That's a lot more than 24 hours for anyone doing the math.

Holding press conferences with the visor down ... sounding loud, hollow and important ... every once in a while opening the visor to show an idiot trying to clarify what they said.

How suprising! I thought someone was just randomly walking around with a gun and picked him!

[–] Jerb322@lemmy.world 1 points 43 minutes ago

Their original mark didn't show up so they took the windfall....

[–] Theprogressivist@lemmy.world 38 points 3 hours ago
[–] 13igTyme@piefed.social 25 points 2 hours ago

Honestly, it would be some pretty funny shit if he got hit by a random bullet someone shot into the air from like a mile or so.

[–] huquad@lemmy.ml 35 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

No this wasn't a school shooting! This was targeted. The horror!

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 9 points 1 hour ago

After a day of rigorous forensics, we have concluded that Charlie Kirk's neck didn't just do that on its own.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 6 points 2 hours ago

clearly worse than mass shootings!

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 14 points 2 hours ago

I'm getting shit for not crying my face off meanwhile the FBI making dad jokes!?

Ammunition in Kirk Shooting Engraved With Transgender, Antifascist Ideology: Sources WSJ Last Updated: Sep. 11, 2025 at 11:06 AM ET

[–] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I mean... fuckface got got during a school shooting. LOTS of people get murdered during school shootings every fucking day in this country because we worship assault rifles.

It actually makes a lot of sense to indicate if this was a targeted assassination or if someone missed while aiming at kindergarten nap time.

[–] Jerb322@lemmy.world 1 points 13 minutes ago

It's sad that this is a valid point.
