And just think, Trump probably could have gotten Maduro arrested by purely legal means

...

But that would have meant respecting the law, like a woke-ass pussy

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 29 points 3 months ago (1 children)

How? America doesn't have jurisdiction over Venezuela. The entire premise here is insane... Sure, we could have backed a rival or done a coup, but the legal mechanism would be sanctions and international pressure

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 16 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Or an ICC arrest warrant

Or letters of marqe and reprisal

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 14 points 3 months ago (3 children)

When has an ICC arrest order actually been enacted on a state leader?

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

He'd been out of office for a couple years so I don't know if you'd count him, but former Philippine president and mass murderer Rodrigo Duterte was arrested on an ICC warrant less than a year ago.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 1 points 3 months ago

Good counter example, but the sitting part is important

Granted it does give weight to your argument, he wouldn't have been arrested by the ICC until he was ousted, but it would've applied pressure

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 4 points 3 months ago

Well there was also $50 million bounty on his capture

[–] ElectricAirship@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 months ago

Duterte of The Phillipines.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Then he couldn't claim the $50 million reward.

Also, Americans never proofread anything they type ☹️

Otherwise, good image...

The kidnapping of Maduro is just a chapter in the Epstein Files story. Let's not forget what this whole distraction campaign is really about.

edit: The criticisms in my replies make good points. I don't mean to minimize what Venezuelans area going through right now. Or to pretend like full Epstein Files disclosure would be some sort of panacea. I'm sorry that I failed to make that clear. I meant to nod toward the fact that war is like a free polling boost for US presidents, and the Epstein Files are the most unpopular issue that Trump has ever handled. So keeping the domestic narrative on the files in social media is I think, at this moment, an effective thing to be doing if you're sitting on US social media. Nerf the war popularity.

wtf, not trying to downplay you idiots electing a pedophile, but i think calling the invasion of another country "another chapter in epstein" is some of the dumbest shit ive ever read.

the world revolves around america

[–] 0_o7@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

It all seems like they're taking talking points out of a propaganda mill like bots.

No original thoughts and critical thinking at all.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Yes and no:

Yes, distracting from the fact that the Mango Mussolini is a prolific child rapist is part of the reason for this egregious war crime.

NO, that doesn't mean that the Epstein distraction element is the most important thing here.

In this case, the distraction is WORSE than the thing it's meant to distract from, at least in terms of geopolitics, the concept of international law, sovereignty, and accountability of nations.

[–] NotSteve_@piefed.ca 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Yes but also the capital city of a sovereign country was bombed and the leader of the country abducted by the USA. I highly doubt Venezuelans are currently thinking about how "oh Trump is just causing distractions again"

Edit: fuck, I'm just waiting for you guys to bomb and invade my own country just to see you all comment "Epstein distraction".

It is funny how cats are literally more stable than a country.

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

What?

I don't

The US just kidnapped a foreign head of state?

Yeah look, that's gotta be satire, no fucking way did that happen.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Nope looks like the real thing. Hmm, can't wait for 2027.

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

I had to confirm it with multiple sources and my parents.

I can't fucking believe it. What the absolute fuck is this timeline.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Why did this meme use a picture of Dr. Disrespect?

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Nahh that's the foreign leader america kidnapped because they are the world police.

Coming soon to a oil reserve near you.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I make a dumb joke and Dr. Disrespect himself goes and steals it.

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

[–] Wlm@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)
