An impeachment effort against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem will "move forward," members of Congress are promising, after the effort was announced last week in the wake of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer fatally shooting a United States citizen in Minneapolis.

"We're gonna move forward to impeach Kristi Noem," Representative Angie Craig, a Minnesota Democrat, vowed during an interview with MS Now on Sunday.

In a press release, Democratic Representative Robin Kelly‘s office said that the 3 articles of impeachment would allege Noem "abused her office for personal benefit and steered federal dollars to associates," "willfully obstructed Congressional oversight and withheld Congressionally appropriated funds in violation of her constitutional oath and federal law" and "compromised public safety, violated due process of American citizens, and directed unconstitutional actions."

Either way ICE receives three times more money in 2026

[–] hector@lemmy.today 26 points 1 week ago (1 children)

200 billion in the bank already. Minus whatever they spent since summer.

Who will be the left's DOGE when the time comes to choose back that money

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 9 points 1 week ago

I think that's just a properly funded IRS

And remember the dems that voted in favor of that increase.

They need to be primaried out

Thank you. I really cannot explain people being so adamant about hating Democrats to the point of lying unless they're intentionally gunning for a conservative agenda.

Did you forget the budget passed by senate democrats in 2025 still included massive increases in funding for ICE and DHS?

Edit: In order to maintain fairness I did make a mistake. They only approved a continuing resolution that allowed the previously approved FY25 funding to be used. Which was a massive increase

So we get to see what they do at the end of this month, but by passing the continuing resolution they were allowed months to operate at capacity.

Are you forgetting the fillabuster? You have to look at the dems that allowed this to go to the floor for a vote at all.

It should have been killed before the official vote.

Also don't get bogged down on a budget increase approved by the "Big Beautiful Bill". That funding was only in place for 2 months before the end of the fiscal year.

The dems had every opportunity in October 2025 to reverse this and use the fillabuster. They didn't even mention it during the shutdown and ultimately caved. That was their chance. They decided not to take it

... they currently have more funding than the Marine Corp.

So, functionally, we're now up to 7 branches of the Military:

Army

Navy

Marines

Airforce

Coast Guard

Space Force

DHS/ICE

The latter two were created by Trump, and of course the last one is the uh, inward facing, definitionally tyrannical military branch, you know, the kind of thing this country was founded on fighting a revolutionary war against.

There's a reason we have a whole initial Ammendment out of the first 10, about not being able to quarter troops in private citizen's homes.

So most of us remember Noem's main claim to fame being that she executed her new puppy, after... not training it properly, and being annoyed by it.

Well I'd like to remind folks she was behind this ad campaign:

Nope, not a joke, not a photoshop, not AI hallucination... this was her baby, and it was real.

Finally... I present to you, ~~Kristi~~ Karen Noem:

Yeah thats from ~7 years ago, when she still had a vaguely human face.

If memory serves... she is still, herself, personally banned from setting foot on any Indian/Native Tribal land in the entire state of South Dakota, basically for consistently being a racist c*nt, consistently disrespecting any and all tribal attempts to keep their land clean from industrial waste.

EDIT:

(I've been told by a local from Rapid City that she also executed a goat in a similar violent outburst as with her new puppy... but I have not been able to verify this myself, with a citable print source.

Local told me that its not uncommon to basically just rent a or some goats as basically au naturale lawnmowers, which does make sense to me...

... but she apparently got annoyed by the bleating, and one day just shot someone else's goat, that she was renting, to be a lawnmower on her ranch.

... Yeah.)

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 28 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The goat story was in her book, as an extension of the puppy story. Once she shot the puppy in the face, she was all wound up on bloodlust, and decided to shoot the goat, too, because she thought it was disgusting.

MAGAs think that's funny.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 days ago

... wow.

Ok.

I thought some local may have been passing along a tall tale, fucking, nope, there is a print source, and it is Noem herself.

... yeah I haven't read her book.

This woman is a portrait of a violent antisocial psychopath.

Like, if you were poor, and you did this kind of shit, you'd get either imprisoned or institutionalized.

She also clearly has body dysmorphia, as demonstrated by her ... can we just call it 'Fox News Face' - affirming care?

[–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Hey! Patriotism today means fighting for a sFer America. You ARE being patriotic by informing us of the failures of the state

Kristi Noem to Fox News Sunday this past weekend: "It's really, really horrific that we have elected officials that are using this as an opportunity to divide, using this to promote an agenda that fundamentally would take away our freedoms and our liberties in this country,"

God I hope so much that we make it through this, and she suffers terribly. Remember, this is just the beginning. By the time she is finally held to account for her crimes, it may very well not be an American court that decides her fate. God I hope they use a rope, and televise it. I know, extremely wishful thinking—every word of it. But this leftist bitch wants to see the day.

And even if everything goes perfectly, what happens when she simply doesn't respond and continues working as usual? When she simply ignores it?

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I guess we should just quit, not even bother to try. Is that what you are suggesting?

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (3 children)

No. They are raising a valid concern that has already been demonstrated with the Attorney General.

Woohoo, first woman impeached by Congress. MAGA busting traditional gender roles.

[–] moseschrute@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago
[–] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 17 points 1 week ago

Trump will just sign an executive order saying 'lol no' the supreme Court will say 'yes Daddy' and that will be it.

[–] makyo@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago (4 children)

He’ll just replace her with someone worse. This won’t end until they remove the tumor at the center of this all.

[–] kyub@discuss.tchncs.de 40 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Probably, but it's still much-needed actual retaliation against the regime. Doing nothing besides complaining helps even less. Wars aren't being won in an instant but as a result of many cumulative small victories.

To get rid of what happening involves a complete upheaval to how the US government operates and dictates. Until then, we will always be in this shitty loop. Trump is a symptom not the cause. There will be someone else definitely worse if the flaws in our government are not fixed.

Frankly, I don't see that happening within my young lifetime.

Who wants to bet that nothing will happen to her?

This is all just a show.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

Who cares? She will just ignore it. Unless you have some method of enforcement ready, nothing you say here will matter.

Impeachment is just pointless “respectability” politics intended to get decent people to step down out of respect for the position. The cult leader running this nonsense was impeached twice and guess what came of it? This is just another pointless show of theatrics, all sound and fury signifying nothing.

Whatever. They’ll just put another PoS Nazi in her place.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Just needs majority of house, right?

[–] hector@lemmy.today 11 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Need a supermajority in senate so symbolic either way but with house majority could maybe force her to testify or sommething.

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not purely symbolic. This will still drag her down and waste her time and resources at a bare minimum. This counts in the "everything" when people say Dems should be doing everything they can to impede the administration.
