Swede here, Taco Bell recently opened here, and I went to try it last weekend.

It was disgusting, I had their recommended meal, some flat soft tortilla with minced meat, corn, cheese, salad and some sauce, with a side order of nacho crisps, and a Fanta thing from the machine.

The Fanta was ok, but tasted too much of sweetener, the nacho crisps were disappointing, and the wrap was just disgusting.

The cheese had a taste/smell similar to that of acid reflux, the meat was tasteless, the salad was basically non existant, the corn was there, I saw them, didn't taste them at all.

The whole texture was like a soggy mess in a tortilla wrap.

For the rest of the day, I would feel sick at random times after eating it.

Sorry for the rant I have been wanting to complain for about a week now and when ai saw the logo I just had to.

For me, it is back to the Swedish classic, Taco Bar.

Yeah, you don't get Taco Bell because you want real Tacos or Mexican food, just like how you don't go to McDonalds for a good burger.

You get Taco Bell because it's convenient, because you're high as fuck and their crazy monstorsities sound like perfect munchies, or because the call of the void today has manifested in a craving for their specific style of shitty junk food.

Yeah, give me a soggy disintegrating taco with a fucking big dorito chip for the hard shell. I'm going to dump like 5 sachets of the hot sauce on it. And I'll have the taco salad in a flattened wrap with the massive cheez-it in the middle. Oh, and the burrito half filled with rice and cheese that has extra cheese grilled onto the outside and spicy Doritos inside too. I'll wash it down with a criminal amount of the formerly exclusive overly sweet Mountain Dew flavor.

Just fuck my shit up.

Yep this pretty much sums it up. While I agree I feel like this kind of thinking has spread too far and now we have so many shitty chains everywhere and so few decent options. Seeing someone have this take from Sweden is very validating bc I feel like so many of my fellow usians around here have such low low standards when it comes to dining out or cuisine in general. And it shows in what's available around me. In a mid sized fairly popular city, 90 percent of our restaurants are just garbage.

Anyway thanks for coming to my rant talk.

There was this wonderful slice of time around a decade ago where fast food prices had started to rise but local sit-down places hadn't. If you had the time and around $5-10 extra then it didn't make sense to get fast food when you could get an actual meal.

Unfortunately inflation has caught up to even the local places now.

[–] Schadrach@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 5 days ago

There was a slice of time even farther back where you'd eat Taco Bell because you could get an absolute fuckton of food for very little money, even compared to other fast food.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago (1 children)

clearly you weren't stoned enough to eat it.

[–] NoForwadSlashS@piefed.social 10 points 6 days ago

Well that there is the problem: Sweden is still fully bought in to the Reagan era take on drugs.

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Can you review Taco bar for us

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I'll try and get some for lunch today.

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 2 points 5 days ago

We're looking forward to it

[–] kboos1@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

In my opinion their Chalupa or Gordita are the best things on the menu. PSA - they don't resemble true Mexican food of the same name at all.

But I never feel good about going to Taco Bell afterwards. I only sometimes stop there if I'm traveling and my choice is limited to McDonald's or Taco Bell

[–] KuroiKaze@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

The hilarious irony is that the tacos aren easily the worst thing at Taco Bell. The grilled cheese steak burrito is actually something to enjoy.

[–] Saapas@piefed.zip 1 points 5 days ago

It's been some years since Taco Bell opened in Finland. My brother went there and said the tortillas there taste just the same as tortillas we make at home. Lost all interest in the chain with that since what would be the point

[–] binarytobis@lemmy.world 41 points 6 days ago (6 children)

I’ve heard people say Taco Bell is so greasy it gives them the shits, but I just don’t think that’s objectively true. You open up the classic bean burrito or taco and if anything it’s too dry, you need the sauce just to level it out. I’ve never actually known someone to have bathroom issues after taco bell. Real life experience just doesn’t agree with the joke.

I heard someone posit that people who say that are reacting to beans because they don’t normally get much fiber and their body can’t handle the sudden influx.

That said, taco bell isn’t good for the most part.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I am firmly of the mind it's because the extra fiber added in the meat while also generally having beans and either they get too much and do have the shits, or are constipated so often, a normal soft poo feels like diarrhea to them.

[–] Ookami38@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago

It's probably not just a soft poo, it probably is actually diarrhea, but you're also probably right about the why. People in America basically don't eat fiber. Get a couple of items with beans and lettuce on them, congratulations you just had more fiber than your entire family's even LOOKED AT in the last 6 months. It's gotta go somewhere, and if you don't have the microbiome to handle it....

Capsaicin and IBS is an unsafe mixture.

[–] TheRtRevKaiser@sh.itjust.works 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I have IBS and capsaicin has never been a trigger for me. I can eat spicy food all day and be fine, but if I even so much as look at a piece of romaine I'll be on the toilet all evening.

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 1 points 5 days ago

Now Jack in the Box is a whole other story. I have definitely gotten sick from a JitB taco.

[–] phaedrus@piefed.world 1 points 6 days ago

I had issues afterward, but my best guess is that it was the flour tortillas + gluten intolerance. Even happened when I ate the potato tacos that had none of the powdered meat, beans, or plastic cheese in them.

[–] Waraugh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

It gives me diarrhea but I’ve also found that any other fat food place does also. I almost exclusively eat food I’ve made at home so I just assume their must be something different with the food at fast food restaurants in general.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 1 points 6 days ago

I've heard a theory that it's some sort of soy intolerance since the beef contains soy lecithin. Or it could be the oats. But I know that people have issues with items that don't have beans.

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 14 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I always used to hear these things in pop culture about both Taco Bell and Chipotle fucking up your stomach and representing some kind of test of physicality, and I thought it was supposedly because they were very spicy. And then I visited the US and tried them and discovered that no, it's not spicy, it's just extremely poor quality to the point of being unfit for human consumption.

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The real answer is that a serving of beans has more fiber than half the US eats in a week, meaning people who order from Taco Bell suddenly have their guts doing what they're supposed to do instead of the usual protien-and-fat shits.

[–] baines@lemmy.cafe 3 points 5 days ago

i take fiber pills

the fiber isn’t the cause

it is the shit quality meat and poor sanitary conditions

[–] stardom8048@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

This is true and I eat both regularly ❤️ my tummy hurts

[–] stiffyGlitch@lemmy.world 27 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Fat Upper Pussy Area. Basically lower belly fat around the pelvic region.

[–] CXORA@aussie.zone 2 points 5 days ago

Surely pubic, not pussy.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

They mix their meat with basically tofu.

That's how their tacos are cheap.

Not really that noticeable. But some people have food intolerance to soy. Especially when eaten in larger quantities.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

Gross. Just.. all of it.
