Also hot chocolate tastes 10x+ better when you’ve been out in the cold.
The trick is you have to be out there for at least 20 minutes to acclimate. Otherwise it just hurts a little and then you get hot when you go back inside.
Source: I work outside in Northern New England including on the sides of mountains.
You can only be cozy in the cold weather, plus you can wear a coat if it's cold but you can't wear an anti-coat if it's hot. When I was too young to fully understand seasons I used to have nightmares about it suddenly becoming summer because it's just such an awful time of year
This is a large part of the winter appeal for me. Dressing for winter is easier then for very hot weather. Although I do use a wide brimmed hat for heat now, it's like a tiny free cooler!
I still get panicked about summer, or even the thought of tolerating that hell of a season. Mainly it's because it has been a pain in the ASS to keep my house comfortably cold or to even have and maintain an air conditioner. It's expensive, and if the heat gets over a certain threshold, swamp coolers and air conditioners become ineffective at a certain point. It's legitimately scary. I don't want to boil alive or die of heat stroke. One power outage in the summertime could mean you're completely fucked. I wish more people treated summer and climate change as more of a threat to life.
Shitty take. It's like: People be like: I love summer and then stay inside in the A/C.
Or in a pool. Smh
I like winter because I can control it, you can always get warmer, it's harder to get colder in summer.
As I like to say, "you can always put more clothes on. You can only take so much off before the cops show up."
I like winter because I can control it
Can you make it stop for a bit, like maybe the next 24 hours? We need rain much more than we need snow and ice.
At least winter is comfortable inside. Summers get so warm now that there’s often no escape from the heat. Where I live AC used to be completely unnecessary so rental apartments with AC basically don’t exist.
And as someone with a delayed circadian rhythm I also hate daylight saving time. I don’t want to get up an hour earlier every day. Why do morning people get to force their lifestyle on us?
People who don't like winter act like they are freezing to death the second it's below 50F
My least favorite thing about winter isn't the weather. It's how little daylight we get.
While winter is far from my favourite season, it has its charms:
- Cold temperature outside means indoors is never too hot for comfort
- The snow is pretty
- Winter sports are fun
Given the choice, I would take spring or autumn however, which has more sunlight and better conditions for biking
Went hiking with temps in the 20s last weekend. Saw some elk. 10/10 would recommend.
People be like, "I love pizza," after having a couple of slices for dinner. No. Eat 10 pizzas. Let's see.
For me it's partly the cozy socks, partly the fact that people in general aren't out and about as much so it makes the whole world feels less chaotic and overstimulating.
Jokes on you. I love the cold. I unironically enjoy being out in - 30 weather. Yes its cold as fuck but it feels fucking fresh. If theres a bit of sun too. Perfection.
Love winter, its just so quiet and peaceful outside, just the sound of the wind and the bitterly fresh air
I just got frostbite in my ears yesterday because I was having an absolute blast in -24c weather lol. Once they heal (or fall off idk we'll see, but doctor says they'll probably heal) I'm going to be right back out there again with better headgear. I love the cold, the dark, give me more winter
What’s wrong with loving putting on snuggly warm clothing in winter? Not to mention that I love both warm inside and cold outside in winter.
When I was a child, I loved snow. The adults told me that when I had to start shoveling the walkway and driveway, my love would fade. It did not.
Then I was told that when I learned to drive, I would hate it. First snowstorm after I got my license, I instantly headed out to an empty parking lot to practice donuts. I’ve been caught in sudden storms and watched other cars slide off the road. I still love snow.
Then I was told that when I got a job and had to support a family that I’d hate snow. Yet this has come to pass, and I still squee like a child when snow starts. I long to take walks in it. I dream of sledding, or building snowmen, or throwing snowballs, even in my middle age, even if I can no longer run as I used to.
No, you will never take my love of winter from me. Summer heat, get thee behind me.
I imagine having an excuse to never go outside is part of the appeal.
I mean the feeling of coziness and warmth inside is a huge part of why winter is so great! I do also actively go hiking, snow-shoeing, skiing, etc in winter and love that too, but that just adds to the beautiful contrast between crisp, fresh winter air and warm cozy indoors.
Yes I love winter and I love being outside during winter, I imagine I would have a whole other perspective if I couldn't afford to heat my home.
I really enjoy winter. It’s 7 out. Windchill in the negatives. I love some spicy air.
❌ hot girl summer
✅ cold bitch winter
I just got home from being outside for hockey in 1 degree F weather and I LOVED it. I’m happy outside to about -9. I get so invigorated.
"Liking winter" does not mean "liking the cold".
It's also winter inside your living room.
Well, there's a reason humans evolved at the equator. Summer all year round and when you're hungry, you just grab a banana. The rest of life is chilling and banging rocks togehther.
My dad and I have always said "it's been cold enough that I've wished for summer, but never hot enough I wished for winter".
If it goes above 20 C for more than a week or so I definitely start wishing for winter. I'm not built for that shit
I fucking love me a proper snowy winter. Ideally the temperature should drop below -20 at least a couple times, for that crispy cold-bite feeling. Cross-country skiing, ice skating, winter hiking, or just doing a winter BBQ in the snow, sign me up
Ok. But i just did a 16km walk in negative temp 2 weeks ago for no reason other than to go on a walk. I am a true winter enjoyer. The cold and snow is nice.
I just got in from shoveling round one.
I'm thankful that it's cold when it snows, I love sledding with the kids.
But now that there was snow and snowmen and snowball fights, can it please be fucking summer now?
Don't threaten me with a good time.
This person doesn't know about winter sports, cross-country skiing, all fun winter activities
