Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem is scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on March 3, according to an aide for panel Chair Chuck Grassley, Politico reported on Monday.

The report comes amid mounting scrutiny of DHS immigration enforcement operations following two deadly shootings of U.S. citizens by federal agents in Minneapolis this month—Renee Nicole Good by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Jonathan Ross on January 7 and Alex Jeffrey Pretti by U.S. Border Patrol agents on Saturday.

While Grassley—an Iowa Republican and U.S. Senate president pro tempore—has been negotiating for weeks to schedule Noem's appearance as part of the committee's regular oversight responsibilities for DHS, the March hearing is expected to be dominated by questions on the agency's immigration enforcement tactics in light of the two killings.

When has anyone from his administration been truthful under oath?

When has anyone else actually done something about them lying under oath?

[–] Carmakazi@piefed.social 28 points 2 weeks ago

They aren't just lying, they're actively disdainful of the bodies questioning them. I think they're daydreaming of the point in the coup that they can throw them all in prison for sedition.

At this point half of them are bringing in notes on the interviewers and just lashing out randomly to questions.

Are Senate inquiries ever useful?

[–] gustofwind@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

According to the standard model of physics they could be, in theory

It's funny this is still announced like some sort of a win. She will have to avoid answering questions for couple hours. Best case she will say something stupid and we will laugh at her. That's it.

There's already mounting calls from the GOP. Not enough, but being a twat in the hearing could sway more for impeachment numbers. There's also a month for her to lose more support before the trial even begins.

The videos are clear and it shouldn't even require her to testify in front of Congress, but I'll take a small victory, regardless of how small, because there aren't many these days.

Have you ever seen any Republican on the stand in the last decade? Being a twat in the hearing is literally what they do.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

That's the worst she can do on the stand, and she's already not liked by gop members of Congress. I'm not saying there will be consequences directly from this, but I don't think anything she says will benefit her position and may turn more conservatives against her. There were already more calls today for her firing. Again, not good enough, but pieces are moving. Bovino losing his position, ICE allegedly moving out of MN to at least some degree... Small steps in the right direction. This battle isn't a sprint.

Exactly this. I imagine the exact same type of response we received from Bondi except with an added bonus of a marble-mouthed Midwest accent escaping from slobbery overinflated lips.

March 3rd, what, full schedule till then? More important things going on for the Judiciary Committee??

[–] DemandtheOxfordComma@sh.itjust.works 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

She won't testify. She will show up, say she can't answer some questions, say she doesn't recall, claim 5th amendment rights, then make speeches.

No recourse

[–] Nollij@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 weeks ago

Congress can use her refusals as reasons to impeach. Impeachment doesn't need to follow the same rules nor evidence as a court.

[–] BigTuffAl@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 weeks ago

ICE doesn't have until March, what fantasy do they live in?

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago

Kristi Noem is a lying liar who lies and kills dogs

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah I’m sure we’ll get to the truth now.

This is the part where she pulls off her mask and was Steven Cheung all the time. To Lewandowski’s horror.

[–] Flying_Lynx@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 weeks ago

For an official making false public statements over and over again, a phrase like "lock-her-up" seems appropriate.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago

I hope she is not as arrogant or venemous as bondi, but they're the same picture. I'm sure she has her little paper of insults for defending herself already prepared by lil' Steve Miller.

[–] SlippiHUD@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

March 3!? There will be atleast 18 more dead by then, if not 100s
