Two compelling critiques of the latest Zootopia film.
I'd call myself a cinaphile, a term I had not known till recent. I couldn't call myself a film critic, or a film buff.
The right.
I look at it this way, don't let some asshole tell you how you should feel. You build up bias toward it, you're going to go in with that bias. Watch a movie because you want an experience.
What if you watch movies for the experience of being intellectually challenged?

most cinephiles i've met take it as a personal attack when anyone simply hates the movies they adore. i don't voluntarily hang around with these people
You ain't gone deep enough into cinephile hell. I'll spit in the face of whoever likes the same movie as me and then I'll go home and cry myself to sleep for not having a uniquely refined taste.

Pretty fun movie though.
I just took my wife to see The Housemaid this weekend. On one hand, the plot was kind of forced and it had to do a lot of voice overs to explain what was going on. On the other hand it had Sydney Sweeney's tits in it. 5 stars.
Fuck Sydney Sweeney. There are billions of sets of tits, find some that don’t belong to a MAGA eugenicist, please.
I always rate entertainment based on how much I was entertained.
I’m not a cinematographer, it’s not my job to look for fault, I’m watching stuff to be entertained. So if a stupid movie entertains me it gets high marks.
I rate art on artistic merit. Movies are able to be either, much in the same way airport fiction is going to struggle when judged as literature and a lot of literature is going to struggle when judged by those who like dumb fun books. I generally dislike pulp fantasy, meanwhile it took me so long to get through the lord of the rings in high school, but it still lives rent free in my head in my 30s.
Same. Also, if it's longer than a tiktok I can't be bothered. The trailer is usually enough anyway..
Why the fuck would I want to be challenged as a viewer?
Life is already challenging enough.
