on a call recently and told a story about something vaguely political. never mentioned names. never mentioned affiliation. only term I used was "political" and some joke about the state of the world.

the call was very tense and awkward after that.

it's fucking hilarious. I feel like this is a super power now.

if there was ever a perfect opportunity to sue for wrongful terminations, now is the time.

I'm just confused by the site description. Aren't tankies generally right-wing/conservative? The domain name and site description feel like they conflict, unless I'm missing something.

Tankies are authoritarian communists, or atleast what they call themselves as.

'Tankie' comes from a 20th century split in communist parties after some breakaway nation tried to leave the USSR to be more communist, and got stepped on by soviet tanks rolling in–the 'tankies' were the ones who kept backing the USSR and woukd brook no criticism.

So yes, right wing conservative–but right wing of a bird that has a left wing and is actually capable of flight. Still radical left in any modern window.

You aren't the only one. As threats to leftists go, they're only second to fascists.

As shitty as I think that it is that a bunch of people are getting axed over their social media posts, I also keep thinking how dumb people are for posting these thoughts publicly and not anonymously.

Companies reprimanding employees for their social media content isn't something that's new. The 1st amendment allows people to say pretty much what they want, but it doesn't protect against consequences from those words. I know that there are varying degrees for what people are saying that they are getting fired for, from true celebration about Kirk's death to what Kimmel said the other night which wasn't actually about the shooting but the response. A company has the right to protect their image if it's employees are doing something that can hurt it. I don't agree with the firings, but I can understand some of them.

All this to say, don't publicly post something controversial, especially politically, if those statements can be linked back to you. The world and specifically the US are not in a good place right now, and if you're an "enemy" anything that can be, will be used against you. Be smart, delete Facebook, insta, and all the other social platforms that can be used to target you

Yes, but... social media corporations have put a lot of effort into making anonymity progressively more difficult to maintain while still participating in society. Being a "normal" person shouldn't mean they just fuck you over by default.

And governments… I’m in the UK and waiting for Microsoft, Discord etc to ask me for my passport before I sign in.

Or the other way around; one of those obnoxious "sign into Google" popups when you're trying to pay your utility bill or update your driver's license.

Anonymity is hard–put in the work or shut the fuck up.
