Updating Firefox suddenly fixed this for me. I then later just had my entire google account banned and I had to create a new account. They even attempted to IP ban me as well. Said I was banned until 2036 or something like that.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Your account got banned from YouTube, or you got banned from Google and it's apps?

[–] CoffeeTails@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Please reply to this dorumon

If it's a ban from the whole google echo-system that is fucked up. I sadly still have a lot of important stuff linked to my google account.

[–] filcuk@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

+, I've been untangling from Google for years, still find the odd thing going to Gmail that could screw me over

[–] BigDanishGuy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 7 hours ago

So you lost access to gmail as well?

[–] middlemanSI@lemmy.zip 5 points 7 hours ago

Ok Google, free us from our sins. Clense our souls, show us the way to green grass

[–] Thor_Whale@lemmus.org 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Well if this happens to me it's off to pipe pipe or new pipe again.

[–] radiouser@crazypeople.online 1 points 1 hour ago

PipePipe hasn't worked for me in a minute. Maybe because I'm using a VPN? Not sure.

[–] sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.io 14 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I mirror my yt channel that feeds my family to peertube for my viewers. No one watches it, but I'll keep trying.

[–] CoffeeTails@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago

Please share a link to your peertube channel :)

[–] bokherif@lemmy.world 22 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

They will still inject ads to your home feed even if you get premium. I noticed the “Introducing” titled video recommendations which are usually 1-2 mins and they essentially place an item in your home feed. When I asked support they confirmed they were targeted ads but you don’t have to click them LMAO. Filthy lying company.

[–] Joelk111@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

If YouTube ever gets rid of the reverse chronological subscriptions feed, I'm so out. I quit Twitter when they got rid of the reverse chronological feed forever ago, as it just felt useless and confusing at that point. As it is, YT is barely usable with premium, and is only enjoyable with revanced, Grayjay, and browser plugins. Sigh.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 hours ago

What is the reverse thing?

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 2 points 8 hours ago

Just use RSS

[–] Puddinghelmet@lemmy.world 10 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

download yt videos and lets reupload everything onto peertube idk

Theres a reason that youtube has no real competitor.

because the amount of data that gets uploaded to youtube every day, every hour, is unfathomable.

I dont even know if its possible to create a proper competitor to youtube at this point. Just from a data center/harddrive point of view alone, the amount of money would be so staggering as to be impossible for anyone but another giant evil company to have a hope at being able to afford it.

There is no real way to compete with youtube directly.

Only options are things that are not direct youtube competitors, Which are typically much smaller, possibly maintaining a narrow subject focus, and require monthly fees/subscriptions to access

[–] cyanners@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

I dont even know if its possible to create a proper competitor to youtube at this point.

There is. People just wouldn't like it. Lowering the resolution and framerates massively to save on space. The nerds (derogatory) would trash the platform everywhere they can have a voice if it doesn't support 4k 120fps, though.

[–] Mwa@thelemmy.club 1 points 1 hour ago

i agree with you

[–] Zwrt@lemmy.sdf.org 21 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Invidious if you can host it yourself.

Freetube if you cannot.

Yt-dlp if all else fails.

Same content, and besides needing an occasional update when google tries to break them again, no bullshit.

[–] Mwa@thelemmy.club 1 points 1 hour ago

i just use grayjay tbh

[–] bokherif@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Is there an app on AppleTV that allows you to connect to a local instance?

[–] chasteinsect@programming.dev 58 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (3 children)

"Based on these reports, users see a message stating “Comments are turned off,” which appears across a wide range of videos"

Seems like a win to me.

[–] StinkyRedMan@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Comments can be useful to know if what you are watchin contains the information you're looking for

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 8 points 17 hours ago

fuck Youtube ads.

[–] jh29a@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I'm only going to click these Articles when my adblocker actually stops working, its basically clickbait until then.

[–] StinkyRedMan@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

As usual they're deploying it in waves. I can confirm i get no description, no comments and when watching a playlist it will play the first few seconds then it will display "content unavailable" and switch to the next video. If I disable ublock origin or if I logout everything goes back to normal.

[–] Leg@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 hours ago

I've got the same deal. YouTube in my browser is effectively useless. But there are always ways to circumvent the bullshit.

[–] mark100@lemmy.world 6 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Had some issues a few days ago. Then the brave army of Brave browser helped quickly. The other browsers should be ok now too with addons. I do not see any problem with videos any more. Still, the dependance on Youtube is terrible, most of the vids are there and there is no serious alternative. One day, hopefully, there will be. Maybe we need to pivot and someone should come with something very new, unrestricted, moderated by community, unstoppable and with no ads. When you do not pay or do not use add blockers, watching anything is almost impossible.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 3 points 16 hours ago

There are alternatives, but there's nothing that pays and promotes like Youtube. The content creators are in it for the cash, or at the very least wouldn't not be in it if it weren't for the cash. They can't even dual post their Youtube stuff because it would be parasitic to their YT income.

[–] kilgore_trout@feddit.it 79 points 1 day ago (14 children)

uBlock Origin on Firefox with default settings and filterlists still works successfully on Youtube.

[–] StinkyRedMan@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Stopped working for me last weekend if i'm logged in. Youtube deploy this kind of things in waves usually.

[–] Stitch0815@feddit.org 54 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Raymond Hill is the absolut GOAT

"No way around it" always ends the same After 2 days uBlock just works.

Taking no donations, just maintaining out of pure spite

Love to see it

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 10 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Spite is a form of currency. lol

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

spite and hatred are incredibly powerful motivator.

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

No, you're thinking of Sprite, specifically the bottle caps.

Gonna use this thread to shout out https://github.com/YTLitePlus/YTLitePlus There are more than enough options for android users out there, this one is for iOS though. Tried it out this weekend on my jailbroken iPhone 6. If i read it correctly it should also be installable without a jailbreak but not that easily. Its super cool and nowadays it feels so weird that you got the option to do such shocking things like disabling shorts or reorder the tabs, its really fun.
