The satire caption was greatly appreciated

I still have to check if it’s Beaverton, Onion or Private Eye nowadays . It’s satire ‘now’ but …

[–] eatCasserole@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

But is it really satire, or is it just very blunt reporting with a humorous writing style?

I honestly think if someone only read the Beaverton, they would be more politically savvy and well-informed than the average joe.

Back when I work in London the Private Eye was my go to for really on the nose satire. Ian Hislop just had a way with words especially on ‘Have I got new for you’. The couriers in the building usually came in the Big Issue which I then started pickup up from the Underground on a weekly bases. (Was like a small paper that funded the homeless, the guy selling at the time)

Nowadays living in Canada the Beaverton and Onion scratch the itch and I don’t think I could really bring myself to pickup a tabloid even if I knew what to get here in Quebec.

Wish I'd known to look for a decent inherited trust fund program when I was signing up for university.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"Everyone should learn how to manage trust funds," says scion of billionaire family dynasty mostly known for smoking crack and throwing business cards at people while shouting the n-word.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Is there a video of him saying the n-word? If so, how have I not seen it?

Sorry, this was Rob Ford, not his brother Doug. There's no video that I'm aware of, just an apology for...

“Nobody sticks up for people like I do,” Ford said on March 5, 2014, before unleashing a string of racial and ethnic slurs. “I’m the most racist guy around. I’m the mayor of Toronto.”

which was anecdotally reported and later confirmed following a late-night bender.
