Irans kids.

[–] djdarren@piefed.social 5 points 58 minutes ago (1 children)

I'm choosing to interpret this as the regular people's kids have armed up and are hunting down Trump and Netanyahu's kids.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 8 points 56 minutes ago

What a better world you're imagining.

[–] eatCasserole@lemmy.world 71 points 3 hours ago (3 children)

When I was a kid, I thought this line was a joke

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 1 points 37 minutes ago* (last edited 37 minutes ago)

The real joke is are the folks reaction

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 7 points 1 hour ago

It is a joke, just a different kind

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 6 points 1 hour ago

I don't have kids, but if I did, I sure as fuck wouldn't raise them to join the military. I saw though that shit after 9/11.

[–] sirico@feddit.uk 1 points 29 minutes ago

Never forget Michael Moore interviewing Congress members about sending their kids to war

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 42 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I have to keep saying this, and I apologize for the repetitiveness, but Republicans can stop all of this at any time. They can fire him, reign him in, anything to stop this.

[–] MTZ@lemmy.world 20 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

Yep. But they won't. Go to the conservative subreddit. They are fucking LOVING it.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 18 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Those conservative subs are 80% bots. Of course, the 20% that aren't bots are being swayed by it.

[–] MTZ@lemmy.world 6 points 2 hours ago

That is very true.

It’s where bots go to argue with each other.

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. You must be cautious.

[–] MTZ@lemmy.world 6 points 2 hours ago

Nobody knows for sure. There are many rumors though.

[–] zr0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 59 minutes ago

My kids? Have the best show ever, thanks to the US.

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 8 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I'm very happy I didn't reproduce. For me, the bottom picture is simply a blank space

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 7 points 2 hours ago

I’ve felt this way before, but I also wonder if I would have had kids in another life where the world wasn’t so fucked. I feel occasionally that I was robbed of parenthood by our current state of things.

[–] choui4@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

This is some good shit. I plan to steal it

[–] MTZ@lemmy.world 8 points 2 hours ago

Steal away, Brosef Stalin.

[–] andyburke@fedia.io 12 points 3 hours ago

You forgot the kids of the Iranian regime.

For thousands of years it has been like this. The internet showed everyone how it has always worked:

The rich vs. the rest of us.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

The one small consolation is that we don't have a military draft, and most young people who pursue the military have a family with military service background. However, the other largest cohort are young people with no family support structures at all, so they give their lives to the war machine to try to do things like get an education.

Still, people choosing to enter military service is way down and more US citizens than ever fail to meet the fitness standards and requirements.

So, it's not really "your kids" unless you chose to push them to military service or were such a bad/absent/dead parent that they had few other choices.

Now, if they try re-instating the draft, than this meme will be a lot more accurate.

This of course is not meant to minimize how insane this push for war is, nor how damaging it will be to those who are in military service, for whom this meme is very accurate.

I work with 100% veterans and active duty. I have thousands of clients, all veterans or active duty.

The vast majority of people do not join because of family tradition. The vast majority join for the absolutely insane benefits that come along with service.

Many of them also join because it is basically their only/best option.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I won't dispute your lived experience, I just know that I have read about families with prior military service being more likely to have children who similarly prioritize service. Thanks for being a support for them.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago

my experience is similar to MTZ's. the family tradition may be there, but the benefit structure is why they join.

[–] 20cello@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

What about Iranian children? Furthermore, would you guys (who by the way elected that thing as your president) trade the fate of your children for theirs?

Fixed it for you.

[–] rayyy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Losers and suckers, according to commander bonespurs. Why not abuse if you have them?

[–] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works -1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (3 children)

Netanyahu's sons did serve in the Israeli military, although how much danger they were actually in is unknown to me, and Netanyahu himself has extensive combat experience.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 hours ago

They're not going into this war is the point.

Lol yes im sure he wasn't taken care of during his "service" get that blue and white boot deep boy does it taste elite?

[–] Limerance@piefed.social 3 points 2 hours ago

One of Netanyahu’s sons was a press officer behind the lines, but the other was with combat intelligence at the front.

Israel is different in this regard. Everybody serves in the army. It’s also a small country. The military Is closely woven into society. The IDF is not a professional army, but mostly made up of reservists who are called up as needed. That means the political leaders will know people personally who have to fight.

What unit you serve in can make a big difference for your later success in life. Combat units, special forces, Air Force, and intelligence have the highest prestige.

Politicians benefit immensely in their credibility, if they have a distinct military career.
