Mine has a setting but it doesn’t get saved after a power outage which occurs a couple times a year.

This is not prudent. Microwaves generate microwaves. The reason they beep that way, is theres a countdown timer to make sure it is safe to open the door. Obviously the dangers are not very high otherwise they would always lock, but if you will notice, there is also a lock feature.
So, it is more health conscious to way for all the beeps.
Also, the holes in the window are there, rather than full open glass, because microwaves are bigger than the holes, so they dont pass through.
This is the extent of my microwave knowledge.
I had an old microwave that had a beep but a second after the cycle end so you had a whole second long window to open it peacefully. Beautiful lost technology.
Make sure you're interrupting it by hitting cancel, as it releases a burst of radiation if you just open the door. Not sure if it would have any health effects, but you need to hit cancel to clear the remaining time anyways.
My cancel button doesn't clear the time, it's exclusively a stop. Reset button is on the numbers section for some reason..
