I don't believe the UFO phenonena are demons but I do think modern people saying they are aliens is exactly as crazy as people of the past saying they are demons. The people of the future will have some other explanation and consider us idiots too.

Like, the past had a whole system and pantheon of angels and demons but have you ever looked at what the alien conspiracy theorists write about aliens? There's a whole system and pantheon they believe in too.

In a decent society saying this would get you locked up for the safety of other peoplr and yourself.

Ah, the Ya'll Qaeda party/religion issues another edict.

Go find some furniture to fuck while you still can Vance

According to several US government whistleblowers this is actually a common sentiment within the Pentagon.

Most UFO/UAP reports can be dismissed via conventional explanations. But about 5% can't be. And for those, a number of influential government insiders are adamant that they are literally demonic. Not that they might be extraterrestrial, extra-dimensional, or whatever other explanation. No, they believe they are literally Satanic demons from Hell. Presumably flying around in Satanic vehicles. Not surprisingly, most of the people holding onto this idea are staunch evangelical Christians.

This theory seems to have taken root with the idea that some US scientists in the 1930s or '40s opened a portal (or portals) to hell. Possible deliberately, or possibly by accident. And since then a steady stream of entities have come through to do work for Satan.

It doesn't surprise me that a bumbling dipstick like Vance believes this.

We truly live in the weirdest, most stupid timeline.

He's weaponizing an old theosophical conspiracy for the purpose of manipulating the MAGA base.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 9 points 3 hours ago

Maybe this is why Elon wants to get to Mars, to see if DOOM turned out to be non-fiction

Honestly, someone like JD Vance believes what it is convenient for him to believe, and right now it is convenient for him to believe the same sort of drivel that the base dumb enough to build their authoritarian regime around believes. I don't think it was coincidence that soldiers were spouted biblical narratives preceding the latest Iran invasion, these are the sort of loyal reliable zealots whose lack of foundation in reality is actually an asset for them. They are the ones being promoted and getting the jobs at the root of their command chains.

Do you have a source for this?

Ideally one I can discredit so I don't have to believe this shit is true 😆😂🤣😭😭😭😭😭

[–] NutWrench@lemmy.ml 28 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I think Republicans are demons.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 15 points 4 hours ago

Kenneth Copeland couldn't even find a human suit that fits.

He's pandering to religious morons. He's dumb, but not that dumb.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 16 minutes ago

Yeah, you overestimate him greatly.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 9 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

If J.D. Vance believes in demons, he must also believe he is going to hell.
Obviously I am very skeptical that he believes either. He believes in getting all that he can in this life, no matter the cost to others.

“I have not been able to spend enough time on this to understand it. But, trust me, I’m obsessed with this,” Vance said. “I’ve already had a couple of times where I’ve said, ‘All right, we’re going to Area 51, we’re going out to New Mexico, we’re going to sort of get to the bottom of this.’ And then the timing of the trip didn’t work out. But, trust me, anybody who’s curious about this — I’m more curious than anybody. And I’ve got three years at the very tippy top of the classification. I’m going to get to the bottom of it.”

Translation:

"Could this be a distraction from the child rape, coverup, civil rights abuses, and illegal wars?"

[–] vegeta@lemmy.world 38 points 6 hours ago (3 children)

I dont understand, therefore: gods and/or monsters

[–] jwiggler@sh.itjust.works 15 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (3 children)

Unfortunately I've heard this exact refrain from at least one small town Christian couple up here in the northeast

I get these vibes, too, from some of the increasingly trad-aestheticized Catholics I grew up with, which is actually antithetical to the actual stance of the Catholic church which is, y'know, science and God go hand in hand, evolution is real, big bang happened , etc, etc

Edit: like suddenly those Catholics are ALL ABOUT demons and learning about demons. One was trying to tell me Labubus are based on Chinese demons and I blurted out "oh you believe in their demons too? Like not just Christian demons but ones from Eastern tradition as well" dude did not understand what I was asking so I dropped it to not be too much a dick

[–] grue@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

so I dropped it to not be too much a dick

Stop doing that. These fuckwads need to be called out on their bullshit way more than they are.

[–] jwiggler@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 hour ago

Respectfully, that's not always the way to change peoples minds / hearts. Most certainly not in this situation, which involves family dynamics.

I appreciate the frustration though. I get it.

[–] vegeta@lemmy.world 13 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

I forgot JD was a convert to Catholicism. The 'father' of Big Bang Theory was a Catholic priest

[–] First_Thunder@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

George Mendel, arguably the father of genetics, was a Catholic priest too

[–] Dhs92@piefed.social 3 points 2 hours ago

Wasn't he a monk?

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

To be fair you don't need to believe a thing (demons) is real to believe someone based a product on it.

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

A common thought for that period of time on earth the usa is heading back to....

Exactly this.

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 13 points 5 hours ago

Small minded ignorant religious people suck

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 7 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

Shady Vance saying a lot of things this week. Peter Thiel must be very busy preparing these statements.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Iran, like everything else they've done, is going horribly, gotta flood the zone again

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Yup. This is the distraction for the Iran fiasco. Which itself was/is a distraction for the Epstein Files. All this bullshit is mentally exhausting.

[–] HermitBee@feddit.uk 1 points 2 hours ago

Peter Thiel must be very busy preparing these statements.

He probably just gets ChatGPT to knock them out...

The Christian Identity and Army of God types have been on this shit since the 80s, and their brand of evangelicalism is now the mainstream, big-box version.

UFOs, witchcraft, lizardmen, the illuminati, hollow earth, flat earth, chemtrails, gay frogs, razor blades in candy, pick one. Anything that can be used to confuse or scare people is 100% real, it was sent by Satan, it's coming for your children, and only White Jesus can help.

[–] xSikes@feddit.online 3 points 5 hours ago

If they are real, that’s a bad start to do any negativity towards them. They could be Vulcan

[–] RedWeasel@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Demons were probably some enemy force originally. For a modern day, winners side example, the Axis powers would be "demons" vs the Allied forces. Early history was word of mouth, classic game of telephone, before it was common to write it down. Add in revisionist history on top of it.

[–] HermitBee@feddit.uk 1 points 2 hours ago

I think it's more fundamental than that, there doesn't need to have been any one enemy force. Fear of predators is baked in, and basically all cultures have the concept of evil beings or spirits.

Modern Christian demons are just a modification and crystallisation of ancient ideas.

Of course open belief in them nowadays should be electoral suicide, but sadly there are tens of millions of Americans who genuinely believe the same.

Is this the Stargate sub?
