Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

How do you pronounce "brb"?

[–] Whitebrow@lemmy.world 1 points 18 minutes ago

Like birb, but without the i

[–] NahMarcas@lemmy.ml 12 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

In spain is illegal keep kids or animals in the car, no matter what, is even allowed break windows to free them

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 6 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Maybe so, but the reason for that law is because the cabin would overheat. It maybe something that they want to revisit as EVs can run A/C whilst parked.

[–] minkymunkey_7_7@lemmy.world 6 points 3 hours ago

It took Spain 350 years to review that the Inquisition was wrong. It ended in 1834. I think attitudes and technology had changed quite a bit since 1478.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 hours ago

Maybe for pets, but it's still not fail-safe.

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Apparently some newer Nissan EVs have Pet Mode as well. Supposedly they display a polite "Thanks for your concern!" message. I'm yet to see one in the wild though. I'd love to see this normalised, not having to do car park patrols in hot weather would be a blessing.

Putting my Ioniq into camping mode accomplishes the same thing except for the message on the screen

[–] Flames5123@sh.itjust.works 26 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I did this to my girlfriend and wife, but they updated it to day, “My driver will be back soon.” :( can’t even have a pet kink with Tesla.

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Yet another reason to trade in your Tesla

[–] Flames5123@sh.itjust.works 1 points 47 minutes ago

No point in trading it in when it’s a 2018 model and fully paid off. Gas is as expensive as ever and I live in a state where electricity is cheap. Plus I take transit more than I drive anyways. It’s just for my wife and groceries and long trips now.

Why is this place so horny

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago

[inhales deeply] that's unfiltered internet

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 7 hours ago

Perhaps it's because humanity, on the whole, is low-level horny?

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

It's kinda always been this way

[–] vzqq@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 8 hours ago

Either horny AF or totally ace. It’s the way.

i want to be put into dog mode---

but not.... the loud agressive loudly barking "woof!!! woof!!! >:(" kind of dog, bzt more like the "arfarf :D" kind of ouppygirl type thing-

where its more vibes and less "oh no im scared u will bite into my leg if i run too quickly making u think im a threat"....

[–] ordnance_qf_17_pounder@reddthat.com 34 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

You need Jesus

to put you on a leash and help fulfill your desire

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

dunno if i would trust jesus with that... hes a stranger to me.

Good girl! Stranger=danger

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

you'd be they type of dog that would lick burglars instead of biting them?

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

(i had to look up what a burglar is)

ithink I would just look at them and see what they get for themselves <3

~~i would lick u tho~~

i would lick you back :p

[–] catfeeder@piefed.blahaj.zone 6 points 11 hours ago

[–] AzuraTheSpellkissed@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 hours ago

[–] JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 9 hours ago
[–] prettybunnys@piefed.social 23 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Still illegal in my state, the one time calling cops can be funny.

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 28 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I wouldn't do that, as the cops will probably kill the dog

[–] Zink@programming.dev 5 points 6 hours ago

That dog was threatening an all-american vehicle dammit!

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 33 points 13 hours ago

When in doubt, you can break the windows and say you were worried for the dogs safety. At least, when it's a Tesla.

Actually even if there isn't a dog, just to be on the safe side.

[–] Mk23simp@lemmy.blahaj.zone 30 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

You'd better bark for your owner like a good little puppy. :P

I'd never!ruff!
