Community Rules

You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

It's crazy to think Bush was once known as the stupidest American president lol

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 1 week ago (8 children)

That's the most based thing I ever heard about the French tbh

[–] FreeAZ@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

The word entrepenuer is French. Bush is just a complete fucking moron.

[–] hoch@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I hope it isn't necessary, but I'm certain there's going to be at least one person who doesn't understand that that is French.

[–] NotSteve_@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Did... Did he actually say that?

[–] BillCheddar@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

No, he didn't say that.

But it sounds like something he would have said!

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

They do have a word for them. It's guillotine. Just not a word to call them by.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago

same with Skibidi. wtf is with that?

[–] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

Holy shit! What is wrong with you, using filthy words like fr*nch online?

[–] thespcicifcocean@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Jokes on you, the French word for a meme is a moimoi

[–] i_love_FFT@jlai.lu 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not to be confised with your mémé

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 4 points 1 week ago

I hate mémés confites anyway, I prefer them rawsted

When a kid says "meme" when they mean "image macro"

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 week ago (25 children)

I can't tell if you're messing with me or if you actually don't know the one intelligent thing that Richard Dawkins has ever said

I remember when people would argue and get mad at the generic use of the word meme for funny internet picture.

I miss a lot of things but I don't miss the image macro pedantry

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

No, the problem is that the kids think that the definition of "meme" is an image macro.

[–] Brummbaer@pawb.social 12 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Mémé means Grandma in French and pisse-mémé is herbal Tea - such a lovely language ...

[–] CrabAndBroom@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

So if you're telling your grandma you saw the same meme, could you say "J'ai vu le même meme, Mémé"?

Also, you better not order the fish at a restaurant operated by French psychos* unless your pronunciation is immaculate.

*since regular chefs tend not to poison you on purpose. Not even the French ones.

[–] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 week ago

Oh my fucking god! You can't just say fr*nch on the internet!

[–] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh man, this was like a sleeper code for the Dexter's Lab core memory lol

[–] rizzothesmall@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago

Honhonhonhon

"Cat, I farted"

[–] merde@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

french nationalists? You mean ⅓ of adults in France?

fuck them

[–] Sirius006@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm French and I approuve this message.

I mean, if "them" is the 1/3 that vote far right. You can include the 1/3 that vote "centre" (aka right). A third of us are still cool despite everything IMO.

[–] merde@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

yes, "them" is for those who vote ~~FN~~ RN
