this is why i cook outside in a large cauldron over a safely banked wood-fire
Seriously, everyone NEEDS to get a fire extinguisher for the kitchen. And keep it up to date. We've collectively forgotten just how deadly fires are, if someone in the middle ages found out we had the technology to almost instantly put out a decently sized fire and most people just, like, don't bother to have it in their homes, they'd lose their minds.
Get a fire-blanket for the small stuff as well. Powder extinguishers make a huge mess, they need to be maintained and eventually replaced, whereas fire blankets basically last forever and for small fires or grease fires they are the better choice.
Wait they expire?
Disposable extinguishers have to be replaced every 10 years or so. Used or not.
Rechargeable ones need internal service every 5 or 6 years depending on model, but with proper maintenance they can last indefinitely, but doing that costs money.
yeah they have best-before dates on them. i think they should be switched every few years or so
You don't need to replace them. You just need to get them retested. They should be retested every year. Most welding supply sotores or gas suppliers offer that service ond it's dirt cheap.
Having a fire blanket is also very helpful and they basically don't expire.
They have a pressure gauge too, which should be in the green.
They're basically a bunch of fire extinguishing stuff under pressure, over time the pressure gets bad
