Americans still love Canada even if they (rightfully) hate our country right now.

From a Canadian POV, I read this like the Americans are right to hate us. I'm guessing I'm misinterpreting that lol

[–] Apollo98@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

lol, yes. I meant Canadians rightfully hate America. Sorry for the confusion.

We hated you before Trump.

Why would the Guardian spell neighbour wrong?!

[–] sbv@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's the Americas edition, so they localized it. /s

Weirdly, they spell it properly in the article text.

It’s the Americas edition, so they localized it. /s

I think this might actually be the correct answer, strange as it is. They also use the Americanized version when they quote Buffalo as the "City of Good Neighbors".

The Buffalo Sabres are an outlier in the National Hockey league as the only team to celebrate their northern neighbours – even when a matchup is between two US-based teams.

I didn't know that. Super cool, Buffalonians!

Well to be fair it's Buffalo and we here in Southern Ontario already consider them Canadian anyways so we don't have issues with people from Buffalo. It's the rest of the country we don't like.

I've always like Canada's national anthem. The US one sucks.

I've never paid attention to the lyrics, but I think your anthem sounds wonderful.

It's to the tune of "To Anacreon in Heaven," an 18th century British drinking song.

Oh shit, I had no idea. That's awesome.

Americans: Fuck your taxes. We're leaving and keeping the land for ourselves. And gimme that fucking song, it's ours now!

I hope this wasn't contrived by faking a mic problem. If not, kudos to the Buffalonians! In Canada, most of us despise the current leader and administration in the usa, not the good hard-working people underneath it all.
