George Lucas naming his mary sue protagonist 'Luke'...
How have I never noticed this?
I don't think Luke is a Mary Sue, at least not to the same degree Rey is, or even Fynn. Luke takes an entire movie and a half to learn some basic stuff and then rushes in to a trap and loses a hand as a result. The only reason he survives that encounter is because Vader doesn't want to kill him.
Rey and Fynn both know how to use a lightsaber the second they touch it and manage to wound a guy with years of training without receiving a scratch themselves. Rey literally never makes a mistake.
True. Although the part that I really feel like I should have noticed earlier is Lucas > Luke.
Usually the epiphany includes the second syllable as: Lucas > Luke S.

While I anticipated some level of self-insert, I'm shocked at how blindsided I am at this
