I’m gonna go ahead and blame schools for being so strictly anti-hat. Kids would get in trouble for wearing them. Head-coverings in general were forbidden unless they were religious in nature, so many kids never got a chance to get used to wearing them.
It made me feel strange seeing so many kids’ shows with characters that wear hats all the time. Hats were like a forbidden accessory in my childhood, and now even though I’m out in the “adult world,” they feel too weird to even try.
See you know what's funny? In my early school years, hats were mandatory. I got bought a dorky thing that got me made fun of, and I hated it.
I now have a complex where I feel weird about wearing hats.

I think the fundamental issue is that I'm a t-shirt kinda guy and nothing except a baseball cap goes right with a T-shirt. A lot of the other hats need something like a suit to make sense.
I used to wear skater beanies/egg shells with tshirts. I also used to dress more like a skater though.
I'm the opposite. I feel like I'm naked if I'm outside without a hat and everyone is judging me for it.

You aren't fully dressed until you've got your hat. Send me back a century its difficult to find good quality hats these days and the sizes are more generic.
Especially uncomfortable when my hair is grown a little too much and haven't had the time to shave yet
I have long hair and thats half the reason i wear a hat. Keeps it under control and the wind pushing little strands around on top of my head and in my face really bothers me.
yeah this is me with a beanie on for decades now,
but its like the master sword, i only break the hair out when its needed! ( to get attention from cuties!)
I gotta plan for that, the rats nest of hat hair doesn't always win them over

But it’s been put directly on my freshly showered head a bunch, and when I pull it over my eyes to nap, smells like lavender. I’ve no idea if my hat is dirty or not.
I tried being a hat guy back in my early twenties. Didn't work. Dunno why.
I went through a flat cap/pipe smoking phase. :/
Honestly, not my worst phase, but far from my best.

Lol at first I thought you meant flat BILL hat and was super confused. I wasn't sure if you were an old timey guy who happened to like limp bizkit, or a crackhead.
I think you have to pick a hat type which fits your head shape, but I wouldn't know how to do that. But I think a skinny face would be weird in a bowler hat for example.
