There were not serious about it. They were paid to say this bullshit. They all new it's stupid but the base was dumb enough to buy it.

[–] TomMasz@piefed.social 10 points 15 hours ago

Idiocracy was a cautionary tale not a how-to guide.

Obama was not just a black president, but a well-spoken, intelligent, knowledgeable black president who navigated the US out of the subprime mortgage crisis and won a second term despite all efforts by the GOP to wreck his chances.

Granted, he still abused the disposition matrix, failed at his promise of executive transparency, ratcheted up surveillance of Americans to eleven and stuck to neoliberal policies which still pulled wealth up from the working class to the ownership class, but the conservatives and Republicans had no complaint about any of this. These grievances came from the left.

But how dare he be a black man, and far more competent than Bush!? (Curiously, he got a Nobel Peace Prize just for not being Bush. Even Obama was surprised and admitted he hoped to earn it during his tenure.)

Obama was a good and competent president who happened to be black. Being black had nothing to do with how well he did his job.

[–] Janx@piefed.social 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Yes. That's the point. But it did have just a little bit to do with why Republicans viciously attacked him and still do...

[–] tacoplease@lemmy.world 1 points 40 minutes ago

Race had everything to with the attacks.

[–] brainzzz@piefed.world 4 points 17 hours ago

Plus so very charismatic and has a brilliant wife and a great marriage. He really has so much going for him!

[–] tacoplease@lemmy.world 15 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah let's leave it up and use it for advertising. Nothing says sophistication more than an ad of Goya Beans in front of your house.

[–] Someone8765210932@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago

Honestly, I agree. This should stay. Maybe the next time a spot next to Trump opens up, all his sycophants can fight it out in a cage...

[–] artifex@piefed.zip 108 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think it was the black guy more than the tan suit that they took exception to.

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Misread, disregard

[–] Dr_Fetus_Jackson@lemmy.world 68 points 1 day ago

Oh, and EPSTEIN EPSTEIN EPSTEIN

[–] LuminousLuddite@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

He put dijon mustard on his hamburger too. The audacity!

[–] tacoplease@lemmy.world 9 points 18 hours ago

Yellow mustard sucks. Dijon mustard beats yellow all the time.

[–] Rcklsabndn@sh.itjust.works 1 points 13 hours ago

I forget, did they rename Dijon mustard during the Freedom Fries era?

[–] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world 46 points 1 day ago (2 children)

At best they were "serious" about it

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 4 points 17 hours ago

Actual Senators spoke out about it on the news.

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 33 points 1 day ago (2 children)

But it was definitely flung around every where like he had ritually sacrificed a human being on the chamber floor.

[–] nexguy@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Remember when Obama wanted to erect a statue of himself? Right after accepting an award that someone else won? What a low life! Who does that?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 4 points 23 hours ago

A tan suit is kind of like a gold suit…

[–] M137@lemmy.today 1 points 14 hours ago

everywhere*

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 17 points 1 day ago

Not people

Paid pundits who's sole job it was to keep the US population distracted over dumb shit while real shit was happening

This has been a thing in the US for what, decades, now? It's pretty much the sole reasons for Fox News existence, to distract people with bullshit so that the billionaire thugs can rob the coffers dry

[–] bigbangdangler@reddthat.com 10 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Most of them weren't serious about it. They spent 8 years bitching that extra amount because the President was black.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 9 points 20 hours ago

Many racists, maybe even most, don't recognize that they are racist. They have some other excuse in their head for why they hate somebody.

[–] Klox@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah and those several times Obama shit his pants on camera. Oh, right, that's President Dump.

[–] Unstoppable_Flop@lemmy.zip -4 points 23 hours ago

Obiden shits in dumps pants every day!

Right, but this is what plants crave.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

No. US media was talking about it as they pushed narrative. Americans, who live and die by their social and news media feeds, then started copying that, as usual.

They don't think for themselves, they just follow their feeds and timelines. If their feed stops talking about Epstein, so do they. If their feed starts talking about Iran, so do they. Literally that's all that happened with the tan suit and why the ballroom is nothing.

Hell, scroll through Lemmy's 'Hot' and 'New' feeds while the US is active if you need to see it in action.

[–] TheOctonaut@piefed.zip 7 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

This... This is a link aggregator website. It exists to link to external sources and discuss them. I'm sorry did you think this was Original Thoughts dot com?

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (1 children)

No, This is politicalmemes and a comment section anywhere is for expression and discussion, but especially more common for memes. Kinda the whole point of the culture of it existing.

What I do think is you've given an excellent example of irony... dot com; or whatever.

[–] TheOctonaut@piefed.zip 1 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (1 children)

You literally specify about Lemmy's Hot and New feeds, why would you try to bluff about only talking "memes"?

It's ok to be wrong some times. Bit embarrassing though to, 2 comments lower, claim you meant something else.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

The point was never about a specific feed. It was about people following whatever their algorithm or curation drops into it, rather than thinking independently.

I don't know what you're on about, but that's the argument. One that wasn't even at you.

So if you want to challenge that, great. But pulling apart the wording and ignoring the substance ain't engaging in the idea.

It's ok to be wrong some times.

Look, honestly, that sounds like either projection or a line that's worked on you before. It's normal that everyone's wrong a lot of the time and I think most people know that of themselves and others. I have no idea why you'd profound that out of no where unless you've made it a "who's right; who's wrong" interaction in your head somehiw. And if it is, peace out! Fuck that shit lol

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 day ago

I really just can't take people who support this seriously anymore. Either admit you got conned or you're a big ol jerk who's profiting from the destruction of America, which one? You haven't "owned the libs" or anything, you just made yourselves look like the biggest dupes ever.

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

I’m tired, boss.

[–] TokesGirlDragon@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

Lmao 🤣🤣🤣🤣

[–] ArgentRaven@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He's literally only saying this as a distraction. From the Epstein files and now Iran (which was originally a small distraction from the Epstein files).

THAT'S CRAZY! WHERE ARE THE EPSTEIN FILES?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 4 points 23 hours ago

But they released the ALIEN FILES.

[–] DrBob@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Shit at least he didnt express a preference for Dijon mustard. Because that would be clfucked up.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 5 points 23 hours ago

They don’t have that at McDonald’s.
