Whoa, no way?!? Color me surprised when 85% of mass shootings are right wing Trump extremists.

[–] reddifuge@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago

It's higher than 85%. The data shows it's 95-100% depending on the year. 2022 saw 100% of mass shootings were done by Republicans.

We can do better:

I don’t even see this as political, it looks religious. He hated mormons by the sound of it. I’ve always said that if Christians got their wish and everyone on earth that wasnt Christian was gone, they would just begin to hate and kill each other over whatever difference they find next. All the evangelists kill everyone else, they’ll then go on to start killing each other over the color of their hair or whatever. Christianity was born as a persecuted religion so they’re always trying to kill someone and play the victim.

[–] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 8 points 17 hours ago

It's just Sneeches with weapons for all time. If it's not religion, it's race. If it's just white supremacists left, they'd wipe out the redheads first and then the blond-brunette wars will start.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 21 hours ago

I don’t even see this as political, it looks religious.

It's almost impossible to tease these things apart, most especially within the radical right. They accuse another Abrahamic religion of not being able to separate church from state, and pretending to be scared of "Shariah Law" and then proceed to trying to enact xtian Shariah Law here.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 6 points 21 hours ago

we've already had a thousand years of Christians killing each other over whether the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Godhead with the Father or from the Father.

[–] tea@lemmy.today 3 points 20 hours ago

It's purely defensive for people to point to the politics of the shooter, I think. I agree you have the motivations pegged here correctly with religion, but Democrats are going to be wary of any shooter being used to justify authoritarian police state shit. Republicans are desperately going to try to paint us as violent, regardless of the facts. Look at what they are trying to say about the MN school shooter and how Kirks shooter was immediately assumed to be left wing before we even knew anything at all.

So this is a “mental health crisis” shooting, and not a “we need to round up the leftists” shooting. Got it.

[–] Blackfeathr@lemmy.world 104 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Nah, this news will never make it to MAGA. They're already saying that this was "another" radical leftist.

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 49 points 1 day ago

It doesn't matter what happens anymore. Americas oligarchs spent several decades consolidating media ownership and constructing an alternative "conservative cinematic universe" where reality is entirely irrelevant.

The base has been indoctrinated with the fascist mental illness by their propaganda machine, and I mean that literally. Conservatives are now a mentally ill population, and de-programming them in any meaningful way is essentially impossible.

Whatever happens from now on, it will always be <insert any nazi scapegoat's> fault in their eyes, forevermore.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 day ago

Because leftists drive bigass pickups with giant American flags and a gun rack.

Well good. Let them spin this. Then they can start second guessing eachother.

No, this is a "Closeted Leftist makes a false flag attack" shooting. And if that doesn't work, it's a "Look at what those violent leftists made me do!" Shooting.

No it's another attack on Christianity in America. That's the line. Never mind they don't care about mormons

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He has Trump derangement syndrome. Get him a doctor.

Remember back when we could all agree that people who murder other people were likely mentally unwell and didn't immediately look to see who they voted for. Pepperidge Farm Remembers.

It's because the right is desperate to throw off the well earned shade that they cause the vast majority of gun-related violence. It's almost as if conservatives, who are obsessed on only have their world view validated through the the news, get violent when the world doesn't agree with them.

[–] Hathaway@lemmy.zip 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

One of my favorite quotes I’ve seen brought up “you don’t have to be evil/crazy to kill someone. You just have to believe you’re right.” - Yoko Taro

Not that it’s an excuse for anything. This also smells of religion. And people kill in the name of religion all the time.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

You say that like you think religious belief isn't a form of mental illness.

[–] Hathaway@lemmy.zip 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I don’t believe it is. I think that’s rather reductive considering how much it’s impacted human culture over history.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

I should have clarified.

Fanatical religious belief is virtually indistinguishable from mental illness to my eyes.

A White Veteran with a Trump sign? This sounds like a RADICAL TRANS LEFTIST!

I'm sure they'll find bullet casings with ANTIFA messages written on them (suspiciously in Kash Patel's handwriting)

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago

Did they ever release photos of the casings from Kirk’s shooting? Cuz I don’t believe that part for a second.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Which turn out to be the manufacturer's trademark after a serious investigation.

Can't help but wonder if he thought he was avenging Charlie Kirk by killing a bunch of Mormons.

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have read his ex was LDS and he held hate for them.

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ahh I felt the domestic violence vibes from the description of the scenario. Scorched earth against the ex makes sense.

There's no mystery here. During the 2024 campaign Trump promised the militias a race war - he didn't deliver because war puts oligarch wealth at risk. Now magas' are taking things in their own hands. That's why Tyler Robinson killed Charlie Kirk: he was trying to kick start the civil war. Trump is desperately trying to appear war like for his base, while protecting his money.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 5 points 22 hours ago

Appearing warlike, inciting violence with rhetoric, and all the while saying "I deserve multiple Nobel prizes for peace!"

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago (7 children)

I get the reasoning for it, but this mad dash to "prove" a shooting is the other side's fault turns my stomach.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 28 points 1 day ago (2 children)

All shootings are the fault of the side that allows crazy people access to guns.

They get so close to putting the pieces together. One commenter said they were pro-union, because people can't make as much money as they used to ("a janitor in the '60s could support a family, vacations, etc" to paraphrase the commenter). Kind of missing that unions and pro-worker efforts are a big part of why society had gotten to that point of wages, job security, etc.

[–] merdaverse@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I looked at a random idiot's profile in that thread saying "we should be focusing on thoughts and prayers, not placing blame on politics etc...". Obviously a few days ago he was blaming "radical leftists". Shocked Pikachu face

[–] circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org 16 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Does the reality even matter anymore?

Pop quiz: can you guys remember the last 20 major US shootings?

I can't. I certainly don't know their outcomes.

Folks will internalize the first wild rumor they heard (indirectly) from Twitter or CNN or whatever before attention moves to the next shooting, and that's the impression that lasts.
