Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Just the quality you’d expect.

Hey we lost the Iran war by the way and we're paying for it.

Everyone called it

People are pretty shitty with downvotes tbh. They use them as a more passive middle finger. Just a quick "feel bad, because you are bad" signal. I wish I didn't care about them but my human nature gets the best of me. If switching instances was easier I'd probably go to one that has them disabled.

So that whole reflecting pond is pretty much ruined now?

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 37 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hopefully it makes a few people who see it reflect.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If those people were capable of reflecting this wouldn't have happened in the first place unfortunately.

No, it’s slightly dirtier than 5 years ago. It’s just a placid surface to reflect light. The fuss about it is really dumb.

[–] jacksilver@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I mean the fuss about it is the blantant corruption of a no bid contract and the fact that it is a very visible/public demonstration of Trumps inability to do anything correctly.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

He’s murdering children and giving away billions of dollars at this exact moment. These beans are so small

[–] jacksilver@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Oh absolutely, but when ~40% of Americans support ICE and the Iran war, sometimes these smaller things can help make the failures of this administration more blatant.

I wish things like rounding up people illegally and detaining them in concentration camps was enough, but it seems like conservatives in america aren't swayed by those kinds of abuse of power.

I mean, I’m not out here canvassing. Whether this would inspire someone to do so, I don’t think so. And finding a trump supporter on lemmy to convert with this is difficult, considering the abject hatred, banning, and widespread defederation of right wing instances and users. Focusing so hard on the pool thing here feels like a waste of mental energy if it won’t push numbers

[–] adarza@piefed.ca 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

how long until they fill it in with concrete and paint that blue?

(then wonder why tf it ain't "reflecting"?)

Corruption in play sight, terrifying symbolism for all to see. Washington is more transparent that people think.

Just going to point out the obvious here and say that this is exactly the type of thing that always happens in autocratic countries.

Dear leader gives a bucket of money to a mate for "a contract". Mate spends 10% of the money on the job and pockets the rest. When the job goes wrong they just deny and blame.

It would be hilarious.

Another triumph for King Mierdas

But Taxpayers spent $14MILLION on this? That would make it a WASTE if this were True and we KNOW Republicans HATE Waste which is why they're trying to ELIMINATE Unemployment Benefits!

[–] artyom@piefed.social 19 points 1 day ago

BAAAAAHAHAHAHA it'd be funny if it weren't so horribly sad.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago

Thanks Obama!

[–] mojo_raisin@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

I'd trust ACME more than I trust Trump's people.

In order to drain the swamp we must first build the swamp.

[–] AmyAye@nord.pub 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What if destroying it was the plan. Time to fill it in and build a new Trump Casino I guess.
