Fun fact: These states require tippable workers to be paid the full minimum wage:

  • Alaska
  • California
  • Guam
  • Minnesota
  • Nevada
  • Oregon

Oh great...minimum wage (lol)

At least something in hellscape USA

[–] axx@slrpnk.net 4 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah, how does that work, the other states don't require paying the "minimum wage"? Then that's demonstrably not the minimum wage eh, if an employer can pay less?

[–] agnomeunknown@lemmy.ml 1 points 14 hours ago

Generally speaking, in states where the tipped minimum wage is lower than the standard, the employer is required to pay the difference if the tips do not meet that minimum. It's a fucked practice, but that's how they justify it.

Yes. In most states, tipped positions can be paid like $2/hour

As others have said, these European tourists aren't helping the system by doing this.

They are however, getting to enjoy acting like the very worst Americans - the ones who don't tip and feel smug about it.

Wow keep it up

But Europeans do tip. It's considered good manners to round up the bill (5-10%).
