Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

It's going to be on video. It's hotter than hell and his handlers don't want him doing a Zachary Taylor.

[–] caboose2006@lemmy.world 1 points 55 minutes ago

Can't wait to not listen to it

[–] red_sock@lemmy.ml 13 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Is he going to reverse Willam Henry Harrison himself?

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

He at least died in thirty days.

[–] lillardfair@lemmy.world 34 points 12 hours ago

He should remember to keep his coat on. That's what killed William Henry Harrison

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 15 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Good, maybe he will croak live

[–] Beehaw_Girl@beehaw.org 1 points 1 hour ago

Will be the best speech ever!!

[–] syaochan@feddit.it 69 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe put some concave mirrors in front of him, just to be sure he gets enough sunlight.

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 13 points 15 hours ago

Trying to make his hair orange again using fire?

[–] Dippy@beehaw.org 3 points 8 hours ago

Promises made//promises kept?

[–] BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca 18 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Because everyone knows the quality of a speech is proportional to the length of the speech. 🙄

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

The Gettysburg Address was four minutes of pure garbage.

[–] MolochHorridus@piefed.social 41 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Let’s hope he gets a heat stroke, then a real stroke and then dies.

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 6 points 15 hours ago (3 children)

If he does, then we'll be left with Vance. Then all we'll have is a boring, run-of-the-mill asshole, rather than an entertaining (to make fun of) asshole.

If it happens before the end of the year, Vance won’t be allowed to run for a third term. So if Trump croaks as a result of this heat, Vance would only be able to be in office for (at most) six more years instead of nine or ten.

I don’t think Vance would realistically win in the next election regardless. But it would be comforting to know that if he does, it would for sure be his only full term.

[–] Barbarian@sh.itjust.works 1 points 7 minutes ago

it would for sure be his only full term.

Until the supreme court rules term limits unconstitutional.

[–] MolochHorridus@piefed.social 23 points 13 hours ago

That insane senility is the only thing holding MAGA together. Without their pedo in chief the current right will crumble.

[–] kolmaskommentoija@sopuli.xyz 6 points 14 hours ago

I am sure you can come up with some creative insults, for that couch-fucker as well.

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 33 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (2 children)

It'll be like his campaign speech where he just rambled on incoherently for a while, slow-danced by himself for a half-hour, then maybe ramble on a little more. That's what makes it so "long."

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 18 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Don't forget the sycophants that have to clap after every sentence.

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 8 points 15 hours ago (3 children)

You mean the paid-to-attend "audience?"

[–] Klear@piefed.world 8 points 12 hours ago

Paid? Doubt. Promised-to-be-paid more likely.

[–] verdare@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Is there any evidence of this? I mean, he is an unprecedented crook in the office, but he’s also a cult leader.

[–] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

I mean, the crowds at the Great American State Fair are a pretty good indicator. I’ve seen longer lines at my local Starbucks. The administration had really lofty attendance expectations, and forgot to account for the fact that Russian bots can’t visit the fair. This was aired on Fox News, which means it is the most flattering crowd shot they could find:

The Jan 6 promoters can bus in thousands of fellow felons.

[–] vinceman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 12 hours ago

On January 5, 2021, the day before the Washington, D.C., protest that led to the January 6 U.S. Capitol attack, Kirk wrote on Twitter that Turning Point Action and Students for Trump were sending more than 80 "buses of patriots to D.C. to fight for this president".[36][37] A spokesman for Turning Point said that the groups ended up sending seven buses with 350 students.[36][38] In the lead-up to the storming, Kirk said he was "getting 500 emails a minute calling for a civil war".[39] Publix heiress Julie Fancelli gave Kirk's organizations $1.25 million to fund the buses to the January 6 event. Kirk also paid $60,000 for Kimberly Guilfoyle to speak at the rally.[40]

At least one of the promoters can't lol

[–] birdwing@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Reminds me of the vids where people would clap for Stalin/Hitler for as long as they could until the dictators told them to stop. People were indoctrinated by fear.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 1 points 11 hours ago

Seems like he just rambles in all of his rally speeches. Not that I’ve seen one in its entirety.

[–] PixeIOrange@lemmy.world 4 points 10 hours ago

So it will be just a short speech as TACO

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 11 points 13 hours ago

i haven't listened to one word from this motherfucker since he got elected again and i'm not starting now

[–] Midnitte@beehaw.org 12 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

He's also going to do it at 9pm which will be ~88°, nowhere near the 100+ he was bragging about. Kinda doubt he's even going to do it outside (so the temperature won't even fucking matter).

Dudes a lying asshole.

[–] NOPper@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 7 hours ago

AI generated dude with the lawn backdrop.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 23 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

I mean they could set up a big AC vent to blow on him from off-stage, and get an awning over the stage.

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 9 points 11 hours ago

One teensy little issue.

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 12 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Probably the only blow job he can get these days.

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 13 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Bullshit. There's probably plenty of people who would be happy to lick that little button mushroom. I'm sure Ted Cruz would do it.

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I didn't need to read that >:(

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Think about how I feel. I had to picture it in order to write it!

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 3 points 13 hours ago

How can you live with yourself now?!

[–] jdr@lemmy.ml 4 points 14 hours ago

#trumppenisfantasies

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 12 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Ok but what is that text at the bottom

[–] dreamy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 43 points 16 hours ago (1 children)
[–] okwhateverdude@lemmy.world 19 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

TIL

Looks like me and mrmisses get to be part of the lucky 10k today.

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 5 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Is there an xkcd for those who've heard of it before, but thought it was so stupid that they completely forgot about it & had to re-learn about it again (& who think it's even more stupid now, so the cycle is likely to happen again)?

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 3 points 13 hours ago

It is pretty stupid and not very funny. The numbers shown in the knowyourmeme site also shows it is not really a widespread thing, so the entry is probably created by the handful of friends which made it up in the first place.

[–] prenatal_confusion@feddit.org 3 points 12 hours ago

Probably going to have some kind of climatized glass cabin. Taco.

Justification: we are the us. We have the tech. We need to show tech. Need to dominate. Thanks mandami.
