Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

MODERATORS

the principles behind a successful exit from crisis remain relevant. While the specific policies will differ across societies, the overarching goal remains the same: to rebalance the distribution of wealth and power in a way that promotes long-term stability, not short-term elite enrichment.

shut down the wealth pump.

Sounds like we know what to do, boys.

I've got my wealth wrench out

This calls for the good ole wealth guillotine.

Looks like Rich is back on the menu!

Yeah but I'm not convinced that those other times had the same level and capability to brainwash and mislead entire populations that we suffer from now.

We're in a world now where multiple versions of "reality" exist simultaneously depending on your political leanings. At least in the "old" days people all shared a common experience and could band together. We don't have that anymore :/

Lemmy is a bubble too, unfortunately. The top posts here are frequently clickbait websites or misinformation.

And it’s easy to look back on the nastiness of the old internet with rose tinted glasses, but… I think folks were aware of the absurdity, yeah. It was like being in a zoo. So I suppose I largely agree

LOT of The Guardian (click bait yeah, misinformation no), AP, Reuters, Al Jazeera and mocking the NY Times for sanewashing

I guess everyone has their different leanings, but I'm talking more about dailybeast, rawstory, literal tabloids that constantly hit the front page when sensationalist or sometimes flat out wrong headlines. There's a reason Wikipedia avoids these.

Folks also spread twitter screenshots or memes that are easy to interpret as factual but are, in fact, completely fabricated. This is an example I'm thinking of: https://lemmy.world/post/36736401

And of course mods don't care as long as it fits political orthodoxy, no matter how much its pointed out. I've even had Lemmy users express they 'don't care' about the source quality, just that it matches their ideology. If the above was, say, a more tankie leaning meme, you can bet the mods would have zapped it instantly.

Lemmy has a lot of Anarchists and very true Left leaning people in general, which means knowing how to doubt everything corporate media puts out into the world.

Again, I'm skeptical of this, as it sure seems like tabloids are upvoted en masse as long as the title is juicy.

In other words, no one really seems to care about information hygiene unless its outside their bubble. Thats a recipe for spreading misinformation.

“The end times”…

None of those societies faced the end of time. And we’re not either.

What ever happens to the US, the world will still be here. It may not be contained to the US, but life will go on. People will adapt.

But there won’t be an “end times”, no god is coming to save us.

[–] SreudianFlip@sh.itjust.works 9 points 9 months ago

They are just using it as a synonym for “collapse”. So end times for getting coffee and black pepper, I guess. And good antibiotics.

[–] zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Sort of is with unchecked climate change at large

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Even with the extinction of the human race, it’s not the end times.

And I don’t believe humans will go extinct. We’ll leverage our technology and adapt. Society will change. The US (or even global regime,) might collapse and end. But something else goes on.

But that is not “the end times”.

Similar, in point of fact, the Bronze Age collapse.

No problem! Super Racist is now a 0.5trillionaire....who's half trillions? Our half trillions.

I propose a rusty rebar running thru the asshole all the way thru the penis peehole. But slowly.

Ah, the ol’ Ghadaffi.

Fascists hate this one trick…
