They’re so desperate to make old people work, maybe if healthcare was free they could work till they’re 80
I came here to impress everyone with my brilliant insight that the $1 trillion saved is what's currently going to the insurance companies as profit and that's why their fighting it so hard.
Imagine my surprise when everyone already knew that. Some smart cookies on here..
I think the main issue for insurance companies here is that the $1 Trillion savings would be going to everyday people.
This is one of the ones I can't follow. Even if the end goal is to literally exploit everyone for the greatest amount of money, it would make sense investing in them living longer, so to extract more value.

That, and the system is fixated so much on short term profits that they willingly forego much higher long term profits.
CEOs and the like are hired and fired based on recent and shortly upcoming fiscal quarters, not long term stability.
TL;DR: Capitalism is a death cult that kills the exploiters as well as the exploited. Just not fast enough.

As a Monday analysis from the investigative outlet Sludge shows, the health insurance industry is pouring money into Third Way, a think tank reportedly preparing to spend $15 million combating the rise of candidates who support progressive policies including Medicare for All.

The centrists in charge of the DNC need to get out of the way immediately.
With their ratchet effect tactics, gaslighting, and stubborn refusal to ever choose the wants and needs of the majority over those of their owner donors, they are as much to blame for the rise of fascism as the fascist leaders themselves.
But it worked exactly one time for Bill Clinton. I mean we’ve tried it a dozen times since then to failure, but I’ve got a really good feeling about this next one.
You see it’s quite simple really, we can get Liz Cheney and, hmm, who else is popular with the right these days, maybe that up and comer Fetterman. Yea, have our candidate “pivot to the center” and pull in some “Biden Republicans”
Maybe during the primaries we can knee cap the most popular candidate with the most energetic base. We can run non stop scare mongering about them in friendly media outlets, talk about “electability,” and hey, if push comes to shove we can let the voting public know they’d be throwing their votes away because our chosen third way candidate is already way ahead because of pledged super delegates.
Then we can focus group the hell out of the messaging until it’s a completely bland melange of effectively nothing but empty platitudes guaranteed not to upset anyone. Some vague nod to things maybe getting better but make sure to steer clear of any Republican third rails, and if they make new third rails out of proposed legislation, tack hard away from it, avoid controversy as much as possible. They say the green new deal is socialism, we agree and say only fringe lunatics in the party want that and we are much happier with a public private partnership that can ensure healthy profits and a healthy planet. Sounds great, I mean the private corporations are already calling the shots so after taking all those bribes cough I mean campaign contributions, they will want to see a healthy return.
Yep certainly this time we will be able to cozy up to big money donors, pivot to the middle, spend most of our time courting Republican voters who routinely refer to us as baby eating demons (we are one well polished message away from swaying those votes, I can feel it) and the base will have to turn out anyways. If they sit on their hands we could get a super duper trump, and so we will put that gun to their heads and say “you have to vote blue no matter who” and then bitch and moan about how the stupid voters are just too damn stupid to see the brilliant and absolutely flawless strategy of our clintonian triangulation.

I need to shout this from the roof tops every time I see a Medicare-for-all story. Medicare isn't cheap. Cheaper than regular insurance? Yes. But we should be demanding healthcare as a right, paid for by the taxes we already pay and the taxes rich people and corporations SHOULD be paying. Zero cost, not more affordable.

That's basically what M4A is: single payer (AKA paid for via taxes) free at point of service healthcare for everyone.
It's not the CURRENT Medicare system for everyone, as you seem to think.
