They are BILLIONAIRES, on the way to TRILLIONAIRES, and most of us live on a few tens of thousands a year. To them, we are as poor as poor gets. We have NOTHING. They don't understand how we even survive.

And they understand that they have already strapped us for life, the outcome of a long-term strategy. Many of us come out of college with a literal lifetime of student loan debt, because we were told by people we love and respect that the degree would pay for itself, only to find out that things change. Then housing and transportation costs skyrocket, and nobody has any excess disposable income, but just in case they do...here's this exciting new gambling app that will hit all your dopamine receptors, whether you win or lose. So who cares if you lose, as long as you had fun?

And then they just bide their time for the period in your life that you, or someone you love more than yourself, gets sick, and they can extract whatever might be left.

And if you somehow manage to navigate all those other traps, they know you'll never get past the last one, because none of us gets out of the game alive. We will get sick, and we will die, and it will be expensive, and they'll get whatever you thought you might leave to your heirs.

It's the Big Financial Extraction Machine, and it is being supercharged by AI, and they will be tracking down every cent we have.

So we're broke, by design. They know this, and in the future they will focus their sales and marketing efforts on the wealthy, who love to spend their money. They may be a smaller market, but they have ALL the money, with more coming in, since they operate the Big Financial Extraction Machine. So the new corporate attitude will be: Don't bother with the Paupers, we got Billionaire ass to kiss.

I'm not a billionaire and I don't study that species or it's habitat closely, but from my limited knowledge they don't really make their money off the consumer anymore. It's more that they invest in the stock market which seems to be mostly disconnected from the larger economy. They also seem to get a lot of money via the Governments of the world.

So why would they care if most of the peons lose their job? Even if the unwashed masses revolt they have bunkers and the ability to move anywhere quickly. They don't give a fuck. But I do think they need a few ~~slaves~~ workers to support them and their needs, but beyond that .....

By leaving 70% of the population out of the economy, based on the strength of the AI surveillance to keep them from being uppity.

Note that "their" best behavior, not even "our" best behavior. Explicitly this is something he sees as needed to be inflicted on others in order to have the future he imagines.

So with enough surveillance and enforcement, the rabble is kept out and maybe they can fend for themselves if they feel like it, away from the owner class reaping the benefits of what they have done.

In theory of course, I suspect ultimately this round of AI will fall short of their dreams of eliminating dependency on the labor class.

Show a scene where one gets drunk and kills a guy by colliding with his boat and then gets his wife to take the fall for him.

Or a scene where disaster strikes and one of the tech bros comes to "save the day" with the most naive idea, like something that sounds good until you think about it at all and realize it's missing some important fundamental parts of the picture. And then they try to absolutely ruin whoever shoots the idea down and actually saves the day, followed by getting more and more unhinged as they see the reactions to each reaction.

Could have one just die because he thought fruit was the cure for anything that could to wrong with him, which ironically might have even caused the issue that killed him in addition to doing nothing at all to help him. Have other characters obsessively talk about how much of a visionary he is. Could make the death scene happen while he's giving the most smug and patronising presentation about some new piece of tech that has a thing or two that sound nice but is presented as if they expect the user to be confused about the most basic shit, followed by a giant price tag. Then add on something that is normally included in the price, but this time it's sold separately for a price that suggests it's a revolutionary new version, but it's incredibly basic.

That is, don't try to top this shit. List it, maybe play it up a bit, then you can end it with the text "this was all based on real events and real people".

He also means that, but he means "intelligence" in the other sense too. They talk all the time about outsourcing our own memories and thinking to chatbots; they want to make everyone illiterate and reliant on machines to do all their thinking for them.

I think if he had intent behind the choice in dropping "artificial" he means to equate AI models with human intelligence. "Intelligence" in your framing is definitely a subset of the data they wish to have exclusive to their platform. They may also want to generate such intel by capturing the interface between human and computer such that targets with poor ops sec would spill the beans to their AI gf.

The future of AI will be local. It will run on your phone and be smarter than you, and in fairly short order.

LLMs and the surrounding code that drives them ("harnesses") are so far from AGI that it will be decades before we see your prediction come true. We need not just one, but many more leaps forward in AI progress to achieve a level of AI that is capable of performing human-level reasoning and planning that will be "smarter than you" or me. If you have studied AI in the pre-LLM times you will have an understanding of the problems that need to be solved for general reasoning intelligence. We haven't solved any of those problems.

LLMs are a large step forward in the field of NLP, but that's it.

That's exactly what I've been racking my own brain for lately: How do we make their money worthless but continue to survive ourselves?

That was the big problem with crypto. It might've even started as a cool idea that would "democratize currency". . . except the dickheads with all the fiat money could just buy and hoard it all like everything else, because they had all the money. So it just became another high stakes gambling operation for them to extract MORE wealth from us.

If their loads of money didn't buy them everything anymore, they'd be left bare as the useless human beings they truly are, and would stop causing harm.

But obviously, our entire society runs on the same money they've stolen so... it's so frustrating...
