Irreversible damage at this point. The people who have established themselves as oligarchs will never lose that wealth or influence and their children will inherit the money and access to power. Continuing involvement in susceptible governments will ensure that no actual punishment occurs here or anywhere else. You get to save up for a wedding in the thousands while they get 6-figure private island weddings from literal enemies of the state without worrying about those pesky IRS rules on gifts from foreign agents because they've eliminated the possibility of IRS investigations indefinitely. How many murders do we think will go unpunished because of corruption? How brazen will they get when journalist body in a suitcase is the current accepted level?

The irreversible damage was caused long before Trump took office, the response to Nixon was the first assault on our democracy, perhaps a mortal wound when he was pardoned. It's been ongoing since then, getting worse exponentially. NAFTA didn't help Americans at all, response to 9-11 was horrifying, and Citizens United and Super PACs were the final nails in the the USA's gigantic coffin.
Trump admin is the symptom of the disease; in a healthy, functioning republic he could never be a serious candidate. He was obviously unfit before he ever announced that he was going to run for office. He is for sale because the US government is for sale, and billionaires and corporations are buying what they are selling.
Never say never. Revolt may take a while, but it's not infeasible.
Was there ever any doubt about this? Long before becoming president he had a lifetime of being a crook.
