For people who hate the government, they sure like using it to oppress everyone else.
Meta, X, and ChatGPT have all automated mass piracy of art, music, articles, and anything their genAI touches. Surely you mean to start there?
They want to lock down file sharing so no one else can use the data to build AI now that they have it
Its only illegal when peasants do it, not when billionaires do it. *
*it being anything.
An who decides what is piracy? The facists? This is a bad idea.
We know they think corporations are people, but they're not the only people they should be serving.
Oh we're voting on shit again? Let's vote on Kegsbreath's impeachment then.
Laughs in I2P
I tested I2P a number of years ago and havent messed with it since. Been wanting to get back into setting it up for torrenting on my server. Will have to do some research and set it back up this weekend. Nows a better time than any I guess. Thanks for the reminder to start again.
I tried it again recently as a comparison to Tor and I much prefer the "everyone is a node" system + full TCP and UDP support, but the main downside is throughput/bandwidth.
It's excellent if you've got time but I wish they would bump the default node share limits so thst the network runs faster.
meaning, "Block whichever sites we say."
Yet another FREEDOM bill from the Party of FREEDOM
Yet another FREEDOM™ bill from the Party of FREEDOM™ FTFY
FREEDUMB! 'Merica, fuck yeah!!
It'd really be nice if "Huh. This protects corporate interests more than taxpayer interests. Denied." was a thing in government.
Then they'd try to get around it by paying lots of taxes!
*laughs in Murican corporate*

There are literally open DNS providers who run their own networks. Good luck.
I have a seedbox in a country that gives no fucks, so I'll just use a DNS provider in a country that gives no fucks. You can make it harder, but you can't make it impossible.
And it's not like it's so much harder to press a few extra buttons. Bonus: you're safer online, so if anyone wants to go down the road, they'll just be safer online.
They're all a bunch of fucking idiots, the people making these bills.
Wish people would realize they are NOT idiots.
This erodes privacy and allows character assassinations on anyone who wants to be safe and/or private by using those VPN that do not comply. Is your mega ISP really going to stand up for your rights under this? Can you really get a new ISP at the "press of a few buttons"?
You aren't the only one here not understanding how "this doesn't directly affect me" bc you have the technical skills to avoid it. It does affect you, even if only by the chilling effect of it being more difficult to discuss online.
Well, they are idiots, for "as long as men die, liberty will never perish". But that doesn't mean they are harmless, we do need to push back against anything like this, not just allow it to happen because "I can press a few buttons"
Piracy keeps the poors occupied and busy so they don’t riot. There’s no blood left to squeeze from that rock, they’re not going to buy streaming. Games are in decline as systems die of go outdated, and corporate erodes the quality of development.
They’re idiots if they push this bill in earnest.
Look what happened the last time people had too much time on their hands (Covid). And everyone has a lot more to pissed about, now.
Your last paragraph crossed my mind recently as the oil prices really start to spiral out of control. There were so many protests bordering on riots because people were stuck at home due to covid - now we're already hearing news that truckers are starting to sit idle instead of driving at a loss.
Imagine how much free time and how much anger everyone will have when the economy grinds to a halt from product shortages all over the country.
I’d love to think people would’ve protested racism and gross police incompetencies ending in death regardless, but it’s highly unlikely.
Even the storming of the Bastille had to wait for nice weather.
Locking away the poors’ access to distraction could very well be that “nice weather”.
I use those to train my AI though. It’s not piracy if there’s money.
“Sonarr has escaped containment 😱!!!”
It was openai or meta that claimed because they didn't seed the torrent that it wasn't really piracy.
So piracy only starts becoming bad when it takes the form of communism/socialism lol.
The theft for a major corperation? Thats just good ol reliable capitalism.
"Issa argued that online piracy helps fund terrorist groups and other criminal networks. ". I never thought of AI companies as terrorists, but it's a good label for the harm it's caused
Um... Piracy funds terrorist groups? Handing out software for free earns money?
That's been the talk track since back on VHS. Apparently copying that tape from Block Buster went straight into buying drugs and weapons.
There was a very weird PSA video I think they put out there at the beginning of some of them.
Edit, yup: https://youtu.be/qcrrZ8X3UKM
Thank GOD! ONLY Billionaires should be Allowed to Pirate EVERYTHING EVER MADE!
-Republicans!
Non of the people pirating content have money to buy more stuff. These tens of billions they talk about don't exist.
Non of the people pirating content have money to buy more stuff
How DARE you!
My piracy is morally; not financially driven
Mine is accessibility driven.
Oh, wanted to watch that series from last year to end? Too bad, it's gone now.
how do they plan to enforce this with foreign VPNs?
See the Autistici/Inventati debacle
Don't try to explain technology to them. It won't work.
they'll try to pass it anyway. if republicants lose majority, it'll be a horrific couple of months as they try to ram and cram every piece of shit legislation they can think of through before the new session starts.
I think they could order Visa / Mastercard / etc. to ban payments to that entity, but 99% of the cases there are ways around it, just ask Putin, he always knows a way to sell petrol to EU / US
Oh look a distraction that also gets corporate donors. Its also divisive and gets people talking.
Probably the most pressing issue of the day. Surely there is nothing else to work on.
Oh, I run a new company called FaceMeta, and this is all being stolen for “training” - therefore perfectly 100% legal according to capitalism
