It's a tradeoff for them. Even gas prices getting higher is just a cost they are willing to pay as long as minorities suffer in the end.

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Sadly though, we all knew it.

If maga only knew how much their lives actually are effected by the dumb choices they make.

Unfortunately if it doesn't effect their cash flow in tangible ways they will never see it.

To be fair it's not just maga. Pretty much 75% of humanity can excuse anything if gas prices are low.

[–] chloroken@lemmy.ml 0 points 7 hours ago

Chauvinist fool.

[–] GalacticSushi@piefed.blahaj.zone 64 points 1 day ago (3 children)

They've been excusing high gas prices since trump started the most pointless war in American history.

In fairness we've been complaining about gas prices since I was in middle school (I'm 38 now)

[–] stephen@lazysoci.al 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yup. None of these people are drawing any lines at all.

[–] 14th_cylon@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How about lines on the toilet seat?

[–] stephen@lazysoci.al 2 points 1 day ago

As long as those lines were Made In America. If we pay them Colombians for their China white bambam - that’s a trade deficit!

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 7 points 1 day ago

High gas prices are a small price to pay for genocide, war crimes, and bombing non-white civilians.

"I can excuse things that don't personally affect ME (unless it's a Democrat then it's the worst thing ever) but I draw the line at being personally inconvenienced!"

"He's hurting the wrong people!"

Execution implies it was legal. Those were murders

[–] durably465@lemmy.ml 1 points 8 hours ago

They were terrorists /s

[–] AmbitiousProcess@piefed.social 8 points 23 hours ago

Unfortunately most people just... don't give a fuck about anything until it affects them.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's funny because the high gas prices is the one thing on this list that really does not bother me too much.

I mean I guess it affects food prices which is definitely bad but at least I get to laugh at all the people driving giant trucks for no reason as they waste all their money in a way that was incredibly predictable.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago

A lot less coal rolling from the shitheads while the prices are high though. Bonus points living in a city and see the idiots driving lifted trucks with off-road tires. "So you get what, 9-10mpg there guy?"

[–] programmer_belch@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Allow me to explain:

  • Sex Trafficking: Not me and they are getting a job until we deport them.
  • Pedophilia: Not my children, not my problem.
  • Rape: Not my wife nor daughter, I protect them.
  • Racism: My neighbourhood is all white / I don't see any racism in my community.
  • Treason: You mean patriotism? Mike Pence was asking for it.
  • Illegal wars: The US is not in any war.
  • Street execution: She tried to run a cop with a car/He had a gun/...
  • Corruption: Still less corrupt than the Democrats.

I have to use my car every day to go to work so gas prices demonstrate that the government is not pressuring other countries enough to lower our prices.

[–] pupbiru@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago

i think illegal wars is more “they deserve it and i’m glad someone’s finally taking care of the situation” … which is starkly different to the pre-war opinion: “wars cost money and that’s my taxes”

[–] Sordid_Seraphim@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

I've seen someone literally say they didn't care if it's their kids.

There is straight up an inexcusable moral failure going on.

Alternative corruption: At least he's honest and open about it.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

They aren't excusing most of those things. They're condoning them. As long as it's their side doing it.

They are mad about the gas thing, but Daddy knows best.

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So, a lot of this would be dissonance in the head of a logical and rational person. Sadly, this is all rationalized away with the help of a few devices:

  • Moral Licensing
  • Just-Universe Fallacy
  • Denial
  • Dissociation
  • Total lack of empty for unknown/outside groups

How do we combat this? Outside of one-on-one conversations to help make "doesn't happen here" things relevant to the individual, I'm not sure.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

How do we combat this?

Historically? Well....combat.

They are going to keep hurting others until we make them stop. That's how bad guys work.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

"As long as I am not personally getting raped I am in favor of rape"

[–] Midnight1938@reddthat.com 5 points 1 day ago (3 children)

What exactly is a legal war?

[–] Chl0r0f0rm_Angel@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Usually Congress has to consent to it, that's why they called it illegal. However by ending the last shutdown, congress agreed that it no longer has a say in wars anymore. Shoutout and thank you, DNC

[–] grue@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

One that Congress votes to declare, as opposed to the President ordering an attack unilaterally.

[–] Midnight1938@reddthat.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] noodles@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 day ago

Legal ≠ moral. But there are plenty of legal wars throughout history

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ukraine is engaging in one.

[–] Midnight1938@reddthat.com 1 points 1 day ago

Ofc retaliation is legal

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't know, MAGA will still vote for Trump. This is logic of centrists and non maga republican (which do exist).

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

non maga republican (which do exist).

So does the tooth fairy.

[–] Ninja876@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Anyone that watched community would know these rolls would be reversed. Shirley was very conservative and Britta (in the red hat) was uber liberal...

[–] DillDough@lemmy.zip 18 points 1 day ago

Britta was not uber liberal lmao much of it was an act, it's a recurring thing in the show. Anyway the meme is the way it is because it's mirroring the lines in the show where Britta says she can excuse racism and Shirley says "oh you can excuse racism?". The meme is correct, they are supposed to follow the source material and this is a perfect mirror of the source scene.
