Nobody asked if the lich was pro-gay marriage?

fake and undead.

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 78 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Everybody missing the point of green text: it probably didn’t happen. It’s also 4chan. So yeah.

But, DM clearly set a timer on when apocalypse would happen if certain goals weren’t met. Players sought other goals and thus, lost the campaign.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 35 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's fake while containing gay.

[–] NEZ27@lemmy.zip 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well almost gay. Dang lich storm stopped it

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 13 points 2 days ago

If the party was smart, they'd have canvassed the crypts and graveyards so the undead army was on their side when it came time to vote.

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

If they were giving in-universe reminders about the growing undead threat and the arrival of said threat isn't an immediate campaign ender, then yeah. Gotta roll with what the players do without making their efforts pointless.

Completely based and fantasy pilled. This is like a metaphor for climate change

[–] SitD@lemy.lol 0 points 1 day ago

shit man we're up for a reckoning aren't we... well, at least we fought the good fight of <current_elon_musk_quote>

[–] terranoid@lemmy.cafe 42 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (6 children)

So basically the DM created a world with a natural disaster incoming, and the players decided to instead destroy the indigenous nation, install a new puppet leader that adheres to Western values and voting rights, and ensure gay marriage is legalized even though homosexuality was tolerated in this society, just marriage was a civil and financial issue and not necessarily related.

Who's worse? The DM, or the imperialist players?

Literally doing the same shit the CIA would, and people wonder why this shit happens. It's a bunch of fucks who think that their Western values translate to every culture and is more important than respecting their sovereignty.

[–] anton@lemmy.blahaj.zone 51 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"The population rising up against authority and for social progress is clearly colonialism from beyond the force wall", is certainly one of the takes of all time.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

you realize the main justification for colonialism was 'we will bring our culture and values to these backwards societies', right?

it's only social progress to you.

[–] MNByChoice@midwest.social 36 points 2 days ago

indigenous nation

We don't know the player's characters aren't indigenous.

Are they wrong? Aside from the CIA doing it for oil instead of cultural values?

[–] Xerxos@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago

Oh, please. The CIA would never interfere because of social values. If there is oil involved, or the interests of a big American company, though...

[–] FavouriteShapes@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I really like your interpretation

Also if we step out of that for a second, I was confused that some people in the comments were mad at the DM/narrator of this story. The question of whether he's the one being an obtuse meanie is really down to what the groups' dynamics are;

  • do they know each other well enough to completely goof off his premise and instead have a meme campaign? Then DM is wrong.
  • are they meeting for the first or second time? Then they're disregarding the work DM did to plan a campaign, and are in the wrong.

It feels pretty shit when you just want to share something with people and they sideline or walk over it for something else.

That's why your interpretation works really well - much like the CIA they are disrupting an existing culture/status-quo and betraying the trust first shown towards them, when fostering a reciprocal relationship could be more effective to achieving their goals. Meta-Imperialism

what a wild and cynical world you must live in. Just divorced from any joy or whimsy.... have fun making everyone around you feel awkward....

[–] terranoid@lemmy.cafe 25 points 3 days ago (2 children)

How dare you infer I have no whimsy. Motherfucker I am chock full of whimsy and joy.

What is more whimsical, enjoying a fresh new world for what it is and exploring it and accepting their differences that you may not fully understand, or asking if it has gay marriage and democracy and destroying it if it does not already reflect your neoliberal values?

[–] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Just because neoliberals tolerate gay people doesn't mean that gay rights are inherently neoliberal. Democracy, maybe, but we don't know if they were doing elections with unlimited campaign spending by property owners or if they were voting in workers' councils. Classical Athens, the United States, the PRC, the DPRK, and the Republic of Ireland all have/had democracies in some sense, but they vary massively in implementation, and anyone who calls all of those neoliberal is either very confused or not being sincere.

Furthermore, trying to change the world is central to nearly any RPG. A crusade to obtain human rights doesn't prohibit whimsy or enjoyment, but when you do the fantasy equivalent of traveling to modern Gaza to organize a festival, you shouldn't be terribly surprised when you get a bad ending regardless of whether you accomplish your goal.

Also, there's no indication that the player characters were outsiders in the first place. You're characterizing them as invaders, but this could have been an internal proletarian uprising.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

You missed the Six Nations, and to try to call them neoliberal would be absolutely WILD.

[–] Hansae@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Why are you popping up everywhere insulting people for no reason

[–] SailorFuzz@lemmy.world -2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Wild coming from the guy who is literally following me around to downvote and harass me across different threads/posts/communities. The guy who scrolled my whole profile to downvote every post is calling "me" toxic...

[–] Hansae@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] SailorFuzz@lemmy.world -2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Yea.... ya did.

Its cute that you removed some after I pointed it out because you realized it was actually ToS violation.... but you did do that. Just like how you're stalking me in this thread too. That's what you're doing.

[–] TherapyGary@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Lol you just accused someone else of the same thing in another thread

Edit: Whoa! Retaliating by DMing me butthole pics? Wtf??

[–] SailorFuzz@lemmy.world -4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yea? Got a cap of that? No? Because it didnt happen?

You know admins can see DMs, right? So fabricating some malicious DM is pretty moot. And its wild that this is the length you're willing to go to attack a person who has done nothing to you. Just getting your kicks by being massively toxic.

[–] TherapyGary@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

Thanks for the tip! Reported ☺

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I never thought much about the concept of marriage in a fantasy setting. Are they going to describe the rules for mutually shared tax deductions in the next version of DnD? It could get complicated with all the different religions and races.

[–] MNByChoice@midwest.social 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I know this one! Not all countries provide tax deductions for marriage. I was going to say there is not one in Japan, but on looking it up, it is more complicated than I care to look at. (I understand spouses tend to have separate finances, but I am far from Japan.)

The historical lens on taxes and marriage is also as complex as one might think.

Point being, in your setting, marriage does not need to have any tax implications at all.

Edit: Removed paywalled link about history of marriage.

[–] tutter@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

mf'er didnt get the memo hat dnd is shared fantasy. I knoe it didnt happen becaus 4chan no friends etc. Still a nonce move. Absolutely not invited to the function in the future

[–] FiskFisk33@startrek.website 12 points 2 days ago

Actively ignoring the DM's campaign direction is a dick move itself.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

Do this thing or there will be consequences.

I wanna be a murder hobo and kill random people!

Consequences.

Yeah no, you're just wrong.

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago

Fucking

Epic

!even with the bigotry, keeping what's known in game relevant is important !<

Slimiest fuckers under these green text comments. Always. Stop defending the DM no he didn't um actually set a timer for this to happen the text clearly talks of how happy he was to stop the gay marriage. And as a DM when players do something blike this. You either don't let them change the course of the campaign of you don't wanna or you roll with it. This is bad dming
