When I went to live in a formerly communist country I got warned beforehand that the people there hate their communist past but I met mostly people who were super nostalgic about it.

Rules:
- Be civil and nice.
- Try not to excessively repost, as a rule of thumb, wait at least 2 months to do it if you have to.
it can be both. you can have people who miss the security but also hate communism. you cant just expect them to be consistent or to make sense.
The people there didn’t hate communism though, it was western liberals who warned me that they would.
yeah, i'm just telling you the sorts of things i've heard from people here in a former warsaw pact country
American History doesn't exactly align with the rest of the world's history.
We just kinda retcon it to make it fit the capitalist agenda.
I thought we’d retired the pinhead/brainlet/drooling wojaks
Yeah production stopped but we've got warehouses of them still in their packaging. It'll be decades before we go through all the brainlet wojaks produced before 2023.
I've got a mint-condition wojak from 2009. Still in its meme folder packaging.
Maybe it stopped where you live, but there's still plenty being made over here 😛
Don't like the ableism wojaks but otherwise a good meme tarnished by a reactionary meme format.
I am from Austria, "not everything was bad under hitler" was said a LOT by the older generations.
I don't think a single individual viewpoint is giving a great picture about the overall situation of a country.
I also don't see why people think they have to pick countries or ideologies like sportsteams. Just look at it with an open mind and take the good parts as inspiration and the bad parts as a warning.

You say this like they were wrong, but from their perspective, they were right. Those people (having survived) were probably white facists who profited from forced labour of racialized groups or landlords/capitalists/petit burgoise who profited from the murder of union leaders and communists or they looted and occupied the homes of genocide victims. Either way, they were objectively better off for a while. Fascism is initially always a quick material improvement for the privileged and the oppressors until the contradictions mount and the death cult inevitably turns on them to eat the ones who helped to start it.
The difference is, that the Soviet Union lasted much longer and genuinely improved the quality of live of millions of people, even all over the world beyond it's borders. Not just temporarily bribe a few willing fascists enablers.

This graph means, if you don't work 70 hour weeks, thank the Soviet Union. The "communist threat" made employers afraid enough to grant concessions. It's all gradually being taken back since then.
This is a pretty awesome graph. Do you have one that extends past 1990?
Or one with a source lol
That too thanks!
also western libs, sTalIN evillll yOu taNKiE!
"Khrushchev never had the makings of a varsity athlete"
You forgot the classic "You don't miss USSR, you just miss being young"
invariably spouted by somebody too young to have lived in USSR 🤣
