Like seriously, I still engage in some niche subs from time to time, but literally everything feels like bots talking to bots.
Once all the smart creative types left because of their authoritarian practices, it just feels like a hollow shell of its former self. Due to all the bots of course, I expect the others still there to slowly leave as the quality degrades further

since last year at the least, when they were us AI to moderate the bans. im guessing they are trying to fully control subs with only AI mods, rather than Human/AI bot hybrid system.
This is probably just them openly admitting it.
this has been happening for some time already. bans after saying a wrong word happen immediately within a few seconds
I got hit by a word filter too. Each individual word was SFW but the combination could be interpreted as hateful (even though it wasn't in context). So they have some sort of intent-matching system that is poorly implemented, probably piping it through the cheapest haiku model they can access.

Days without hearing a single thing that has made me want to visit Reddit: however old this account is
Reddit is bots. Bots moderating bots, OK, use that electricity baby. We have an old expression for this, though: Garbage In Garbage Out.
So, how long till this just deletes the trove of old information reddit still has? I can only see this destroying the last reasons for going there
once AI only Subs become more pervasive, is when people stop visiting, but that likely is going to be gradual. spammers/ are already salivating at the thought using this.

A friend of mine left Reddit recently over this kind of thing after being an avid member for years but...
He joined X? He's got terrible taste.
That's what I'm struggling with. X is awful, Reddit is awful, tumblr is awful, and I can't think of a 4th established platform that fills the nich. This is the closest, which is why I am here.
The funniest part to me is he'll share a meme or comic and 90% of the time I actually saw it on Lemmy first, lol. Only exceptions are super niche. Basically if it's viral there, it's viral here.
Something that became very obvious to me when Shorts became so popular - the mega platforms have an endless supply of low quality content they can keep feeding you so long as you keep coming back. The actual good stuff should only last the typical person 30-60 minutes per day, if you spend longer than that, you're mostly looking at lazy slop.
So yeah the good stuff that does well on Reddit/X, also does well here. But there's less content so it's easier to feel like I "ran out", but in a good way. I ran out of low quality time wasting slop.
as if they arnt using AI to moderate subs, but they probably want a sub with only AI in it.

One side effect of all the pushes to verify ID is that it's more likely a website (such as reddit) would have a real identity. For at least a little while we're living in a world where an AI could flag a post as "suicidal ideation" or something along those lines, and a completely automated system passes the info down the chain to local PD. This increases the likelihood of things like involuntary 72 hour holds, etc. and there aren't any forces currently with any power that are going to stick their neck out and assume the "AI" is wrong.
Of course you could fight it only to find out some unauditable AI set a bit in a database. Reddit has a history with one of the previous admins editing the backend database to suit reddit at least once that we know of.
This is simultaneously new and inevitable
