It's a very niche meme, but if it fits anywhere, it's this thread!

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

I used to be like "I won't date people whose profile has astrology stuff in it", I'm a hair away from extending that to "people who use therapy language in their profile"

[–] Zensate@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I would pretty much assume someone was a narcissist if thet explicitly wanted to avoid language that could hold them accountable

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

That sounds more like a theseist. Narcissus didn't want to use online dating, he actually didn't want to date anyone. People kept asking him out and he always said no. According to Conon he "rejected Eros", which is a fucked up religious way to say he was aroace.

[–] Zensate@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Narcissus was a mythological figure known for his self-obsession, but ordinary narcissists can't be self-contained like that; they need other people to support their self-obsession.

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Oh, you mean the mental disorder? Narcissistic Personality Disorder?

Yeah, you shouldn't be using that word if you don't have NPD. The APA recommends person-first language (person with NPD) or identity-first language (narcissistic person). Label-only language promotes stigma, prejudice, and hatred. You shouldn't promote hatred against people with mental disorders.

[–] Zensate@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh! Narcissistic behaviour in the wild.

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Asking people to use person first language for mental disorders is extremely normal. It's weird that you're not used to it by now. It's 2026.

[–] Zensate@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Right, right. Everyone's "expletive" if they're not doing what you want, aren't they?

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Man this is just like watching a Ben Shapiro video. I'm an evil abusive wokescold for asking someone to use inclusive language. I didn't know we had this kind of person on the Fediverse.

[–] Zensate@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Nah, you just are what you, aint ya?

[–] deHaga@feddit.uk 1 points 2 weeks ago

Is this a joke?

There are terms I've had psych professionals use with me in a clinical context that lots of people use in casual conversation in ways that range from counterproductive to abusive.

Also people who are insistent that everybody needs to have a therapist their whole life, including you, aren't necessarily respectful of what you've been through or what treatment you have sought.

I think there are a lot of power trippy therapists out there and IME non credentialed people who like using those terms are not ppl it's a good idea for me to date.

Also I think astrology is just dumb and completely uninteresting. Now, if someone wanted to ask my favorite alchemical process, that's different (it's rubedo, obviously).

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What's your favourite and least favourite non-explosive chemical reactions?

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Maillard is probably my fave, fruit surface oxidation probably my least.

HBU?

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Maybe this doesn't count, but I like dissolving / saturating things like sugar and coffee, and dislike oxygen to ozone ionisation.

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

Oh yeah I almost went with dissolution too.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

rubedo is for dorks. Assation gang 4 lyfe

[–] architectonas@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

...including you...

Wait what? Thanks for elaborating though.

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

I'm using "you" as a general thing, probably should have said "chat"

[–] diemartin@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago

Also the "only good vibes" people. Those people are usually toxic as fuck

[–] houndeyes@toast.ooo 103 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)
[–] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago

Possibly the best joke in Season 8

[–] Madagaskar_sky@lemmy.world 57 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I'm out of the loop. What's happening?

[–] diemartin@sh.itjust.works 130 points 2 weeks ago

The left image refers to a pun joking about astrology ("Mercury retrograde" -> "Mercury in Gatorade").

The right one refers to how basically the food (and related) supply in the U.S. is poisoned, and everyday the news is basically someone spinning two wheels, one with the name of a food, and another one with the name of a disease.

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 74 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Gatorade recall

Though it has to do with undeclared dye, it’s not uncommon for US foods to have more serious contaminants

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I know that part of it but what's the 2016 half?

[–] TastehWaffleZ@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There are times where an optical illusion makes it appear that the planet Mercury is in retrograde (when a planet reverses its orbit)

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Mercury went in retrograde in 2016?

[–] diemartin@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The year is arbitrarily 10 years ago for comedic effect

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] diemartin@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

No worries!

[–] Sturgist@piefed.ca 11 points 2 weeks ago

It's an astrology pun

[–] arctanthrope@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Mercury appears retrograde roughly every 4 months, for a period of about 3 weeks

[–] TargaryenTKE@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

According to OP it's a play on the term "in retrograde" which is used in astrology and astronomy

[–] Madagaskar_sky@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Oh. I thought it was a joke or something. It's real.
