Mine doesn't have anything of a particularly personal nature, just obvious stuff from purchase history like:

  • Likely favors Merrell brand for outdoor footwear (I have purchased the same model of Merrell shoe several times)
  • Hikes frequently (a reasonable guess about someone who repeatedly buys hiking boots)
  • Likely has a ThinkPad laptop (I bought trackpoint caps)
  • Likely owns an Olympus camera (I bought a battery for an Olympus camera)

Yeah. Mine is really basic as well. It can be summed up as has kids, pets and a car.

The weirdest thing I see is "frequently repairs small engines"

I replaced the carb on my lawn mower last year. It's the only part I order from Amazon because I'm lazy and wanted an prebuilt carb. I hardly call that frequent but maybe it's a low bar.

It thinks i do all the work on my own car because I bought a Haynes manual one time 😂

You don't even have to purchase something several times. I bought two of the same monitor once and now it thinks I have a preference for that no-name brand. It's pretty dang dumb.

Merrell Moabs are very good, I've bought them 3 or 4 times already (previous model was better) and plan to continue. Very good shoes.

Mine is pretty straightforward, "builds electronics" "has precision tools" "likely has a french press" (I do, I bought it on Amazon), "prioritizes high-speed data transfer", "Probably has a computer system with internal expansion" (I bought an NVMe SSD from Amazon once), "Likely lives in (the town in my saved shipping address)"

So surveillance. Much sleuthing.

It's a lot bigger than just this though, because they buy data broker info, which isn't included.

I once read a piece in Harper's Magazine, they bought these data brokers' bullshit and looked at their own profiles, and they were very wrong on a great many things, wrongly labeling people as gay, (facebook tried showing me gay ads at one point,) and a host of other ill informed conclusions about us.

Keep in mind, the feds, and maybe states now, buy this information to use against us. We should have some rights, but we don't.

Same with added note, no history for three months.

  • Likely favors ZigBee smart home protocol
  • Plays video games across multiple platforms
  • Consistently repurchasing specialty food staples
  • Likely has outdoor space

Though it definitely gets a lot of other things wrong, like the number of kids I have.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What is a "specialty food staple"?

Hilariously I apparently am big into adheasivly mounting things and also buying batteries. Nothing about my buttocks, sadly.

Oh. And I prefer Anker chargers.

Not only did they have my age range completely inaccurate they've also listed camping as a hobby. I don't even own a tent, I have no idea why they think I like camping. I've never bought any camping equipment from them, I've never accessed the website from communal wi-fi in a campsite. I don't know where they're getting this assumption from.

Have you ever researched or looked at knives or multi-tools?

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 2 points 20 hours ago

Oh maybe, I'm not particularly interested in things like that but my dad is pretty into Swiss army knives so maybe he used my Amazon account at one point?

I mean it's fine I don't care I just think it's odd.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

Damn, nothing about how extensively I told them to get fucked when they put ads in Prime Video

[–] Aviandelight@retrofed.com 16 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Mine says "Builds Xbox controller collection gradually." I buy my husband a new controller about every 8 months because the sticks start to drift. Maybe it should say Xbox makes shit products.

They probably should have made customer-facing descriptions more-flattering.

[–] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 20 hours ago

I never deleted my account so I checked and the most it knew about me was like, playes pc games extensively and thats probably bc i purchased some pc components a long time back. Also said i make bread at home regularly. Jokes on you amazon that bread machine i bought that i always think about using more has sat unused for 2 months

[–] crenquis@lemmy.today 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

"Maintains consistent snacking preferences" the most specific one "Owns rasps" If it really got me, it would call me out on what I usually use Amazon for...   Last minute project stuff.

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I feel attacked by this headline.
