A bipartisan group of six senators on Sunday called for Donald Trump’s administration to “immediately reverse course” on a plan to purchase diesel from Russia as part of an effort to lower high fuel prices.

Trump shocked lawmakers when he announced on social media Friday that he struck a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone call. He said Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel to the American and global market, followed by an additional 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons “immediately thereafter.” Russia will deliver an additional 3 million tons “within a short period of time” after that, he wrote.

Four Republican senators and two Democratic senators signed onto the statement released Sunday in protesting the deal. They said the administration failed to consult with Congress or submit any explanation to justify its decision as required by statute.

Could not care less. Just buy it if it helps

Seems like a better idea to try undo the damage you caused yourself in the first place

Trump (Krasnov) can't unsuck Putin's dick.

Syphilitic old shitstain betrayed the U.S., E.U and Ukraine in a single phone call.

Here is my thing. How in the world is JD Vance not quietly building support for the 25th? Like that might be the only thing that could save them in the election.

But even if they still plan on cheating, Trump is literally nothing more than a liability at this point.

“These 6 senators don’t want you to have cheap gas!”

And bipartisan! Surely this will send a message

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 6 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Literally it was a message they sent. Next I suppose they're going to do something about it.

[–] nightwatch_admin@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

Look I get it, but for the moment let’s be glad these six are doing something.. a lot more than the absolute nothing - or bootlicking - the others are doing.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

I'm skeptical of any republican that has had the opportunity to keep Trump in check, but has not. This feels like an attempt to make them look better before rhe midterms.

let’s be glad these six are doing something

No. This is LITERALLY the least they can do apart from nothing. And 94 senators aren't even doing THAT much.

That's as worthy of celebration as Mitch McConnell completing a sentence without having a stroke or Hakeem Jeffries neglecting to call a common sense progressive candidate with more popular policy positions than himself "dangerous" or "extreme left".

Susan Collins is very concerned. She might write a letter.

"He learned his lesson"...

[–] Hayduke@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Six!? Why, that’s almost seven senators! That will surely get his attention.

300k tonnes of diesel isn't that much in the grand scheme of things.

[–] thallamabond@lemmy.world 26 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

In 2025, distillate (or diesel) fuel consumption (excluding biodiesel and renewable diesel) by the U.S. transportation sector was about 2.94 million barrels per day, or about 123 million gallons per day.

123,000,000 gallons per day. Diesel weighs 7 pounds per gallon so 861,000,000 pounds or 430,500 tons per day.

This first shipment will not cover 1 days fuel cost. But what it will do is give a big pile of money to Putin.

[–] Maiq@piefed.zip 6 points 1 hour ago

Just bought the midterms with taxpayer money.

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 8 points 2 hours ago

But it's enough for them to blame the Dems when things aren't magically fixed after they win in the Midterms. The idiots eat that shit up because they have absolutely no idea how a national economy works. Republican economic policies are consistently bad for everyone that's not in the 1% and yet they vote for them all the time because they're told told policies are good for them, regardless of the reality they deal with daily.

[–] tburkhol@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I feel like that's the worst part of this: he's undermined what had been a reasonably unified international campaign for what, like 2 days of diesel?

[–] StabbingSky@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Not even a single day's worth. It's less than the transportation sector uses in a day.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 47 minutes ago)

Alternative headline:

94 senators in favor of or indifferent towards heavily sponsoring the war crimes of a geopolitical adversary.

It's not as snappy but more relevant to the state of things

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 1 points 2 hours ago

Like there’s a chance it’ll happen.

[–] rumimevlevi@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

I am pretty sure trump will listen /s
